It's good to see these conferences looking to expand but how does this actually help the conference?

we need a d2 conference that covers more northern-based hbcu's.

Central State is such a stretch from most of the SIAC teams.

It would make more sense to put Central in the East, at least for football. Then you would have the schools on/near I-75 in the East and those on/near I-65 in West. Besides, Central is about 150 miles from Frankfort so it is still closer than the previous proposed expansion to Missouri and Oklahoma... :tiptoe:

JT:

There are only a few HBCU's in the North (i.e. Central State, Wilberforce, Cheyney and Lincoln), but with that said Central State average miles from SIAC schools is 554 miles.  Spring Hill in Mobile is the longest ride at 778 miles and KSU is the shortest at 138 miles.  Two schools (Albany State and Spring Hill are more than 700 miles away from Wilberforce, OH.

Central State's average mileage from CIAA schools is 501 miles with Elizabeth City 628 miles away and Winston-Salem State 392 miles.

LU,

You are correct BUT Central is still closer than the proposal the other year of adding Lincoln (MO) and Langston to the conference. In that case, I think it was over 1K miles from Benedict to either school and 900+ from Ft. Valley and Albany.

GK:

I totally agree with you, Missouri and Oklahoma would have been major travel costs for all schools involved.

y:

Central State was a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with schools from Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee but they were the only HBCU in the conference.  It seems to me they wanted that HBCU rivalry/tradition which will cost a bit more for travel.

What?  Not expecting Da House to invade CSU's Cross Country Meet?

Seriously, maybe teams can partner up and share expenses on some of these upcoming roadies.
