The west campus construction, I'm told, will increase the school footprint in that neighborhood. The designed new Student Union will be awesome. Combine those changes with the venerable facade of War Memorial Stadium - the subsequent modernization renovations should be in line with other campus construction.  Happy for you.
The new student union will be great Lil CU is feeling some type of way about that since she will graduate next May.

She salty. she should hear some stories about those trailers when Williams Cafeteria was being built or the flooding in Scott Hall. These young Aggies got it good and its getting better.

Brother Tony is correct. The reason this place has not been renovated is because the foundation and superstructure has issues that would be expensive to repair. The holdup has been that it is a historic war memorial. It would be cheaper to tear it down than to put funds toward preservation. The city is still not doing it with that 1.4 mil. The last proposal the city floated was to demolish the whole thing but keep the front entry arch to preserve the memorial. Even that did not get support.  I think what will eventually happen is that A&T will keep it for a while until it becomes a hazard, and will ask the city to put up some preservation money or allow them to tear it down. The city will be forced to act then or watch it go away. It would not be an issue with voters because funds for the place has been rejected three times by voters over the past 20 years. The voters wanted a new place and that is what they got.

between the city of greensboro and a&t, we’re investing about $6 million on that stadium.  ain’t no way in hail we gonna invest $6 million only to tear it down.  most of the funds are going towards the “infrastructure” of the stadium, so ain’t nobody ‘bout to tear that stadium down.  now of course the city was previously willing to tear it down because they have a new stadium downtown.

but that stadium along with the renovations will be used for many more years to come.  you’ve gotta be out of your mind if you think we’re gonna just throw $6 million down the drain...

The State will provide the money to pay for the white boyz on campus and their sport. Why are they spending so much money on a sport that brings in no revenue. That money could, and should be used to get the revenue sports, football and basketball, competitive on the national level. How many black students, on that 90% black campus, attend baseball games. What are they going to build next, a field hockey field, or a new Olympic size swimming pool. In these times of short revenue sources, we need to spend our money wisely.

Believe it or not, most of the fans that attend are indeed Black.  It's mostly alumni, but they are there.  Students are limited to mostly girl friends and/or running partners.

I'm sure they will have no problem finding folks to lease the stadium for various events.

I made a comment earlier thinking this was a recent post.  If they have not closed a deal in 4 years it likely won't happen.

I found some minutes from the last Board of Trustees Facilities Committee report that mentioned waiting for a Brownfield study before they could move forward.

It's #03 on the list of documents.

"reportedly", war memorial stadium was recently cleared by the environmentalists so the final official transfer of the stadium from the city of greensboro over to a&t should take place within the next month or two i'm told.  the scoreboard, restrooms, and locker rooms have already been nicely renovated but significantly more renovations are planned to come soon...

GREENSBORO — N.C. A&T and the city have reached a deal on War Memorial Stadium.

In a letter dated today, A&T Chancellor Harold Martin said the university will pay $2.5 million toward preserving and renovating the venerable ballpark.

The city will contribute $1.5 million toward repairs and transfer ownership of the stadium to A&T.

"Significant renovations to the stadium will allow it to continue to be home to our baseball team," Martin wrote to City Manager Jim Westmoreland, "and provide the university with an additional venue to serve students, alumni and the community."
Why is the school taking ownership of this stadium?

Why is the school taking ownership of this stadium?

The stadium literally sits directly across the street from and borders the west end of campus. The city of Greensboro no longer has a need for this stadium. The Aggie baseball team also uses this as their home as well. It make plenty of sense to take this site off their books if possible.

Once all the renovations are completed(tentatively by the end of this year), A&T will be leasing it's new facility out for various athletic events, outdoor concerts, festivals, and etc. during the summer months following baseball season.
