My Lunch Experience Today at Wendy's
« on: July 17, 2014, 02:43:27 PM »
[Poster's note: the following narrative was somewhat inspired by Ms. j's dispatches from Charlotte where she and the rest of the AKA sisterhood are having their annual boule.  I will explain below.]

...............so your humble poster goes to the "friendly" Wendy's restaurant located near my office.  Now before you culinary snobs get started , my standard order consists of the apple pecan chicken salad and water with lemon.  So even if I DID order some burgers, its STILL no reason for you snobs to get started.........

Because of past experience, and given the demographics of the labor pool there, I give my order with words expressed VERY CLEARLY and VERY SLOWLY, as in.........apple.....pecan.....chicken......salad.....for..........here......and......water.........with.......lemon.   I say it this way ALL THE TIME!!!!!

So what is typically the response from the order taker as she is preparing the order?  Is my order for here (seated in the restaurant), AND. water is placed on cup with NO LEMON!!!!...............  *sigh*  I have learned from past experience to not show my IMMENSE annoyance at this response, either by facial expressions or increasing the bass in my voice.

Now the connection to Ms. j and the sisterhood...........the overwhelming majority of the folks working this Wendy's are black women, including today's order taker, and economically, socially, educationally and pretty much any other indice you can mention, they are at the OPPOSITE END of the upward mobility continuum than are Ms. j and her sisters.  So that's why I TRY to exercise patience........ *sigh*

Anyway, there WAS one bright spot to today's luncheon.  They have an intercom system which plays nice, non-invasive music, and right in the middle of lunch, they played Barbara Streisand singing Evergreen.  Along with just a HANDFUL of other singers - Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston (save the disco/dance music), and Kathleen Battle, to name a few - I absolutely NEVER tire of listening to Babs and the singers I just mentioned.

Love, precious and ever, ever, greeeeeeeeen............

Listening to that just made my day.  :)

It has been my experience that Black women are the worst at listening and repeating what they heard if you are an articulate Black man.  You can expect them to get your order wrong if you are using correct English.

..............I shouldn't  at this^^^^^because all it does is encourage you.  No, this is NOT the type of feedback I was expecting, but certainly typical of what we have come to expect of YOU.

No need to make inflammatory comments like THIS^^^^, y, to seek attention from the lovely women who are a part of our community on this board.  I'm sure there must be OTHER qualities/traits you have that would make you attractive/desirable to the sistas........................aren't there? ?????

Ok Daddy Neymar.  BTW, black women are very, very good at repeating what they hear.

..............I've never been presented with a "style badge," sir.

And, btw, didn't I ask in the lead post that you "culinary snobs" to please don't get started with me today?

Y'all a trip.

Well, at least I don't wait that long line like you do in Atlanta  while that burger  lady abuse her customers.  In honor of  her, I think it is time to pull up the Cafeteria Lady. I love it.  ;D

Strike, nothing I posted was meant to be inflammatory.  It is the truth.  You can go to another Wendy's where the help doesn't look like the ones at the above Wendy's.

As far as the Ladies of Onnidan, I'm not trying to impress any of them.  The few I have met in person are very classy.  They did pronounce my last name the way they do in Montgomery County, NC.  I'm sure they would get orders right at a fast food joint.  They are in the minority.

Cap, nothing wrong with Wendy's.  Would you rather he go to the Burger Shack in Mt. Gilead?

Cap, you're talking about Miss Ann's over on Memorial Drive. You can HAVE THAT mess.  I've never been and will never go so that some mean ole cantankerous senior citizen can talk to me all rude and treat me mean.  White folks seem to MARVEL? at that experience. They're the fools standing in line for that hot mess.  Perhaps it fits a stereotype that some of them are comfortable with?   ;D   :brickwall:

That's the key.  Never order a burger at the Burger Shack.  Get the fried chicken.

I caught my first fish at the Hydro Dam.

Yeah, you want a good burger you have to drive up to Troy to that little redneckie place at the folk of the road close to Bojangles. I ate there 4 weeks ago and was the only negro up in there. I love those little southern country dives.
