Kentucky's Big Blue Nation about to dedome Rex Chapman

Dude musta had a death wish (or got holt to some good sticky icky) by tweeting that Coach Cal was leaving UK for the Lakers.  He dropped this info bomb before the championship game on Monday...nice Rex....well done...nice timing chief.....

Can you imagine Cal dealing with THAT before readying the troops for a title game..... :lmao:

When Rex Chapman heads to Twitter to say things like University of Kentucky coach John Calipari is headed to the Los Angeles Lakers, the former UK star says he feels as if he's just talking to friends.

"I'm not a journalist — never pretend to be," Chapman said Tuesday morning on the Dan Patrick Show. "I interact with people. I'm not going to refrain from giving information I hear just because it might upset some people."

The Kentucky native with deep ties to the NBA as a player and executive didn't back down from his comments made Monday night on the social media network — that "word is," it's a done deal that Calipari would go to the Lakers.

Where did that word come from?

"Two things from two very good sources — one was that, win or lose, he's going to the Lakers," Chapman said. "And then at halftime, was told that we're talking to the Lakers and of course he has to listen. You know, hey, I don't make this stuff up. You know me better than that."

Calipari denied the report — or, whatever Chapman wants to call it — in his press conference after the national championship game loss to Connecticut, saying he has a job and Los Angeles has a coach. The Lakers, through a team spokesperson, also shot down the rumor.

"I believe that John is very savvy when it comes to these things," Chapman said. "I hope he's not going to leave, but come on. He deals with this every year."

This though, Patrick said, is the Lakers. This is the chance to potentially coach the NBA's premier team.

"I agree," Chapman said. "We'll see. We'll see what happens."

The Lakers, under current coach Mike D'Antoni, are 25-52 with five games left in the regular season, long eliminated from playoff contention.

Asked where he thinks Calipari is employed two months from now, Chapman said UK.

The comments came a day after an interview on Patrick's show in which he said he didn't see Calipari leaving after this season.

"I don't know where he goes short of saying, 'Sayonara. I'm leaving, leaving and not coaching anymore, and I don't think that's happening' " Chapman told Patrick on Monday.

Then Chapman, who just two days earlier had called UK's "Teamcast" for Turner Sports on TNT, talked to his sources.

"Whether it's to sweeten his deal at UK, I don't know" why Calipari would think of leaving, Chapman said. "But obviously, there is something to it. Come on."

Chapman has more than 45,000 Twitter followers and this season also experimented with a blog on his website, He discusses most UK games in real time with fans on social media.

During Monday's game, it was mostly backlash.

"I've been dealing with a small minority of Kentucky people — the uninformed — since I was 17 years old," he said. "At 46, it's damn sure not going to bother me.

"...It's not affecting me. I think it's hilarious. Some people just want to place blame somewhere -- anywhere. Look, it was a tough game. We lost. It was a great run, and you move on. But dealing with John Calipari rumors is something people have to deal with all the time, every day, every year this time of year."

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.
