Are the Chinese buying up Detroit?
« on: October 05, 2013, 06:31:52 AM »
Warren Ballentine said he saw what look like a thousand of them in the Detroit airport. Also, I heard a news report the other day that the Chinese are buying up huge chunks of commercial real estate here in the states, especially in the major cities.

Fifteen years ago my wife and baby were in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It had been known as the most British city in North American and in less than ten years had become one fourth Chinese. Hong Kong business men were buying homes there for their families just in case, not knowing what effect the mainland take over was going to have. Well now we know. You are permitted to make money and prosper all over China as long as you don't challenge the government and the new rich on the mainland are investing in America. It is a safe haven. Two years ago, I attended outsourcing meetings
in China and it nearly blew my mind. I had never heard of Chongqing until then but it looked prosperous and like a mega Pittsburg. You know those A&Is, A&Ts, A&Ms, technical schools, and engineering schools? Well they have their equivalents. Everywhere I spoke I said we developed these schools in order to manage out natural resources. We have the traditional European style universities also but Europe does not have these. I told them that they reminded me of America in the 1960's and that resonated big time with them. It was the "we can do it attitude" as opposed to what ever it is that we have now.  So Congress ya'al want to continue to play? Get some baby nipples and suck on them.

I heard something interesting on the radio today about Russia. They said about 1/3 of the youth population is addicted to drugs and many adults have a drinking problem. They said  the government makes these things easy for the population to obtain because an addicted population is easier to control. Don't know if any of this is true, but they were discussing it.

Northwest has several direct flight from Detroit-Tokyo and Detroit-Beijing...perhaps that's why he saw so many...they fly here and connect to other cities.

No, China's not buying up Detroit - Dan Gilbert is... :tiptoe:

I wouldn't doubt it. It's his hometown, and that's a component of his business interest. He'll in be in the catbird seat when Detroit makes its turnaround, or when foreigners come knocking at the door to invest...

I thought China was too busy buying up African mineral resources and other land deals.

As for Detroit .Look at Brooklyn today. That will be Detroit in five to ten years. It will be the new hipster destination.

I agree B4L.  The lady that sadly had a life end in DC while driving wild was profiled as living in Brooklyn but could not afford her rent anymore.

I said it more than a month ago that Detroit is a buying opportunity for black consortium of business people or a mix of blacks with different skills who want to start a sizeable community with a small to midsize driving economy; and it doesn't have to be all black but a mix of other ethnic groups.

A brilliant artist.  The problem I have with world conscious black artists today, is their lack of command of the English language.

I know that they have problems in Russia including a Russian Mafia. I don't know the extent. It is what happens when you try to go from a controlled economy and society to a market economy without controls. China did not allow the latter to happen.

We almost lost Detroit.

I think the reference might be to the Detroit riots of 1968.
