Question for my conservative brothers
« on: June 23, 2012, 07:49:41 AM »
Do republicans represent the interest of ALL PEOPLE.... I had an interesting opportunity last night while at the bar, a friend of mine (who is a republican) told me that the party is very inclusive and fights for the rights of all when i asked him how all he could bring up is that the republicans are the party of Lincoln .... i agreed then asked i and then what .... with no reply....after that he changed the subject

So i ask in all fairness with no slight intended, what have republicans put forward to make sure all people are treated fairly

civility please

Let's see....

Republiklan legislatures all across the Nation are passing voting restrictions to limit early voting on sunday, limit registration times and groups that perform mass registration functions, and including new voter ID requirements... moves that will lessen the number of minorities, the elderly, and young people, ALL of whom  tend to vote Democratic.

They are using budget problems as an excuse to cut education, transportation, and social services for the middle class and poor, while  the same time, RE-DIRECTING state monies to tax cuts for corporations and the upper portion of the upper income members of their population.

They are breaking public sector union contracts and eliminating benefits for public employees. This includes unprecidented attacks against teachers and nurses and police officers and firefighters; people who until recently were considered HEROS for their work to help and or improve our society.

They are passing legislation limiting a womans right to choose and homosexuals rights to marry.

They are cutting back on or eliminating rules and regulations on everything from environmental to workplace safety. They are cutting restrictions on corporations and how they do business.

But worse of all, they are using a formula for economic "recovery" that has been COMPLETELY discredited and in fact, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ECONOMIC MESS WE ARE IN TODAY.

Now... you tell ME; how do these changes benefit ANYONE other than a FEW rich people at the top?

Why would ANY poor or middle class person support the gop when what the gop is doing is CLEARLY not in that persons best interests?

Since the question was addressed to the conservative brothers and cholly answered it he's either telling the truth about being a liberal or he's telling the truth about being a conservative brother by answering the question.  When did he tell the truth?

Since you people couldn't wait for the conservative brothers to answer the question I will contemplate answering the question at a later time to be determined by me.

Not to mention being confused, since some Democrats are conservative.

More importantly, y04 ain't said a peep on the topic.
And won't have anything substantial to say, I predict based on his years-long silence on this very topic.

Watch!

bigram$,

With respect....

Sorry to go  :offtopic:

Unfortunately, the Conservatives on this site are unable and unwilling to address this issue.

I'd be pleased for them to break precedent and deal with this, but - alas - like your friend in the bar, I doubt they will and, more incriminating, I doubt they can.

Exhibit One: y04's post.

I'm here almost everyday.  I read, while scratching my head with amazement.  I'm not one for all the rhetorical insults or name calling, so I just read......

The republican party has changed pretty much like the democratic party has changed.  "I" think too many people are caught up in the politics of 'Politics.'  From conversations with my friends (BTW, mostly all look like me), all have share many conservative values.  From what I have learned, because who 'we' are and what 'we' have been through our social agenda is more sympathetic while the republican agenda remains apathetic.  With that said, neither party understands long range planning, social/economic growth & harmony.  Politics are 'messy' right now and will be till we figure out the 'real culprit' of the mess this country is in.  IMHO< that problem is caused by the 'pass' we give Congress for their irresponsibility.  Changes need to start there first.
Like I will always say, I have conservative values but my thought will remain pragmatic.  I will never let one party dictate my agenda.......
Thanks Mister1Kester for asking my whereabouts......  Like Steve McQueen said in 'Papillon' when he tried his final escape from Devil's Island....  "I'm still here............"

The best way to answer your question is to state what conservatives stand for.  Then it is up to the person to decide.

Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, free markets, and individual liberty.

Conservatives believe welfare should be a means to help a person become self-sufficient.

Conservatives believe in lower taxes and smaller government.

Conservatives believe life begins at conception.

Conservatives believe in a free market system.  Free markets create more jobs and allow for a higher standard of living than government jobs and those weighed down with government regulations.

Conservatives believe in the right to bear arms.  We believe in the right to defend yourself.  We believe in the enforcement of gun control laws.

Conservatives believe in legal immigration.

Conservatives believe in Affirmative Action.  We believe people should be admitted to schools and hired based on their ability.  Not their race.

Conservatives believe in the death penalty.

Conservatives know the U.S. Constitution does not mention the separation of church and state.

The above is not an all or nothing list for conservatives.  This is a general list of what conservatives believe.

It basically boils down to if you want the government to do for you then nothing conservatives put forward would appeal to you.

One bit of information of what conservatives have put forward are the twenty-seven jobs bills that are waiting on Senate action.

I REALLY don't want to give the impression that I'm picking a fight with you personally... just commenting on your comments.

I was a registered Republican for 20 years. During that period of time I watched the GOP move from being a party of FISCAL responsiblity to being a fring party dedicated to representing the interests of the ultra rich ONLY and using a number of means INCLUDING THE DELIBERATE SCAPEGOATING OF BLACKS to reach that goal.

While you CLAIM that both parties are the same, they in fact ARE NOT.

Health Care Reform passed without a SINGLE vote from the gop. So did Fair pay, the Increase in the Minimum Wage, and MOST of the PRO environmental and social legislation of the last decade.

The argument that BOTH parties are somehow equivalent or equal in their lack of benefit for black people is myopic and factually incorrect on EVERY level. :nono2:

It either has a SERIOUS problem with reading comprehension, or it is once again attempting to deflect and dodge the questions placed before it.  ::)

Notice the rote repetition of gop talking points... points that have NO relationship to fair treatment of ALL people, but rather fair treatment of BUSINESS people, certain religious people, and people who own firearms.

Now, if you are the average BLACK person... or better yet; the average middle class person... given that list and the actual ACTIONS of the gop since the Contract on America, which party would YOU support?

The choice is CLEAR.  :nono2:

It was for me.  :tiptoe:

cholly, The Contract for America is dead and has been dead for a long time.  BTW, I was the first on this board to call it the Contract on America.  I must have missed something in that contract since you agree with me.  I'll look it up and reread it.

bigram$, something else you can tell your friend that seems to be a CINO is the following that is the backbone of conservatives regardless of political party.

The Ten Cannots

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.

You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

You cannot build character and courage by destroying men’s initiative and independence.

And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.
