While I won't lose any sleep over it,  I have to personally disagree with the POTUS on this one.  This is due to my religious and moral beliefs, therefore it is a waste of time to attack me on them so save your strength.    

I must agree with you as I''m very disappointed with his stance. He is very close to losing my vote.  

I don't agree with the Potus, but I won't go as far as to say I will not vote for him.  This is America, and I believe that our president has the right to believe what he believes.  Remember he is also the gays president as well.  I have much respect for someone that will stand for what they believe. 

True.  I feel that it was a bad move for the POTUS. 
I guess that it's better to get it out now then to do it right before Nov.

For all who would rather change to vote for Romney because of Obama's new stance. . . um. . . Romney once promised to be a better champion for gay rights than Ted Kennedy (RIP).

I'm sure the Black church will have a field day with this. But in two years when a Pres Romney  is putting the remaining safety net for the poor and underemployed in a shredder remember your comments.

As Ken said people love to cherry pick the Bible verses for whatever purposes that serves their interests. Always have ,always will.

 

This one issue will not stop the black church from supporting President Obama.  You must think most blacks in church are republican.  It has been my experience that the black church is more forgiving than most organizations.  Cherry picking huh.  Oldsport may be cherry picking but I was responding to Ken's assertion about homosexuality being mentioned in the bible.  As I said those of you have a hard on for churches/religion have at it.  Just don't expect me to go along with it.  Each tub has to stand on its own bottom at the judgement so you do you and I'll do me.   Until then.....

Religion is one of those issues that will always divide the masses.  Who knows if this will hurt or help the POTUS in November. . What I do know that allowing same sex couples to marry will not destroy the country. All it will do is create another industry............same sex divorce.

This why there is a SEPARATION between CHURCH & STATE ...... I personally dont think gay marriage is cool..... which is why i dont plan on marrying a man...... It is not my job to press my beliefs on someone who dosent believe what i do ... I find it interesting that so many chose to argue that they are THE PROTECTORS OF MARRIAGE when ppl use marriage as a joke, u have celebrities who get married and divorced within days...you have states that make it legal to marry your cousin .... i mean how does gays getting married affect me ...answer IT DOSENT


And also i like who ppl always break out leviticus when having these conversations but conviently forget that when Jesus died on the cross he died for all sin ... and there is no hierarchy of sin ....so gays getting married is no more a sin then , lying, stealing, killing etc etc

The president just lost the majority of the independents.  He should have kept his mouth shut on this one. 

A Gallup poll released Tuesday found 50 percent of Americans support legalizing same-sex marriage, while 48 oppose it. The number marked a slight decrease from a year ago, when 53 percent of Americans surveyed by Gallup said they supported gay marriage.

The poll showed a strong partisan split, with 65 percent of Democrats and 57 percent of Independents supporting the measure. Only 22 percent of Republicans, however, support legalizing gay marriage, and 74 percent oppose it.

I don't agree with same sex marriage. However, I also don't support Amendment 1.

I am well aware of what the Bible says about homosexuality, marriage, etc. So please no one direct any scriptures toward me. I also do not believe in premarital cohabitation so there.

Amendment 1 was clearly a smoke and mirrors political ploy to force the POTUS to make a clear statement for or against same sex unions. It worked and now we are no longer talking about jobs, healthcare, women's reproductive rights, or education because we are worried about two women making it legal at the justice of the peace.

The fact is, NC marriage statutes already prohibited gay marriage. So the political right won a battle it had already won? It disturbs me that the same preachers preaching against gay marriage have homosexual ministers of music, choir members and some are closet homosexual themselves. The Bible also condemns lying, gossiping, breaking the peace, disrespecting your parents, over eating, not giving to the poor, and so many other things that we overlook. People want to jump on gay marriage and some wives have never even cooked their husband a breakfast! That ain't Biblical either!

I will still vote for the President. After all, he is a politicial trying to win his office by any means necessary. It is what it is. I am secure in my religious beliefs and my relationship with God that I don't have to condemn someone else, but love them as Christ would.

When did not agreeing with a position become forcing your views?  Your argument about Leviticus is nonsensical in the context of this thread.   Ken said it wasn't in the bible. When folks posted where it is then we are cherry pickin.  You did get one thing right though, there is no hierarchy of sin.  Since I don't advocate the other sins I won't "be conformed of the world" and accept this one either.  But lets be clear on one thing, Jesus did not die so you could sin but rather so you can be forgiven of your sins.

Obama was DEAD WRONG when he said this was a decision that should be left to the States.

The Supreme Court once said that was the solution for slavery... and MOST of us are either from or LIVE IN states that onces legally opposed OUR freedom.

Those state LEGALLY took away our rights and freedoms because the people in them didn't think or believe we needed or deserved them.

What the majority of Americans have to realize is this: if YOU can take away ANYONES rights and freedoms, EVERYONES RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS ARE AT RISK.

Nahh.... he's pretty much on the money. 

The point was, nothing YOU do effects how I live or should live, nor does it barr or insure my salvation.

People need to understand that and STOP trying to tell OTHERS how to live their lives when it doesn't harm another. 

I grew up in a STRICT socially and fiscally conservative home. I will admit to being a homophobe for religious reasons as well as because that's how I was raised.

Then one day I thought about it. I am NOT responsible for the actions of others... ESPECIALLY when those actions don't physically or tangiblly harm others. When I started working with gay people I discovered something else; THEY ARE PEOPLE JUST LIKE STRAIGHT PEOPLE.

Now I could care less about two people of the same sex in a relationship... but I DO care about people LEGALLY restricting the rights and freedoms of minorities.

If it could happen to gays it can happen to us.

I don't believe in same sex marriage AT ALL, but as long as the government doesn't force ministers to marry same sex couples when it is against their faith, then it is what it is.  

Obama basically said in the eyes of the law they should receive equal benefits, including marriage - I still don't think he believes in same sex marriage personally.  Even if he does I respect his opinion - he'll have to square it with God one day just like I have to square my thoughts, actions, and beliefs with God one day.

God gives us all free will -  so if Billy and Bob  or Mary Kate and Ashley get "married",  I won't agree with it, but they aren't marrying me are they?  Live your life....
