Lawmakers in the nation's capital have floated a plan to require high school students to apply to college or trade school -- even if the students have no interest in attending.
The proposal is a bid to ensure students in the troubled Washington, D.C., school system at least have the know-how to navigate the admissions process.
D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown, who introduced the bill, said the proposal would establish a "mandatory workshop" to teach teenagers how to apply for aid and admission. It would then require everybody to apply to at least one post-secondary school before graduation.

I THINK IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA.   I ALWAYS MADE IT A POINT TO APPLY FOR A JOB, EVEN IF I HAD NO INTENT OF TAKING THE JOB, IF OFFERED.  IT KEEPS ONE CURRENT ON WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE JOB MARKET AND KEEPS THE INTERVIEWING SKILLS SHARP.  I LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSONS YEARS AGO; IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB WHEN YOU ARE NOT EMPLOYED, IT IS TOO LATE.  BEST TIME TO LOOK FOR A JOB IS WHEN YOU ARE EMPLOYED AND THAT WAY YOU HAVE THE OPINION AS OPPOSED TO BEING FORCED TO ACCEPT ANYTHING,WHEN YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED.

It's okay but they are blatently ignoring the obvious: are these kids ready and prepared for college?  What about more resources from Pre-k to 12th grade to prepare them?  What becomes of this post application? Great, the admissions office is now inundated with apps from a bunch of students who may or may not want to attend?  Are these new applications printed on different color paper to differentiate them from those who really want to attend a school?  Seems like someone got folks working in admissions and needed lifetime contracts....
