Labor Force Participation Rate Drops To 63.9%, Lowest Since January 1984

The labor force participation rate, and the reason why the general unemployment rate declined to 9.1% is due to the labor force participation rate of only 63.9%. It matches the participation rate from January 1984.

This means the unemployment rate is actually much higher but, many Americans who have been long term unemployed have given up looking for jobs.

The participation rate, which measures the percentage of people working or searching for jobs, fell to 63.9 percent, the lowest in 27 years.
