Lawrence O'Donnell doesn't seem like the right person to replace Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

^^^Mark Thompson.

He's been in the business on radio for YEARS and his Sirius/XM program "Make It Plain" is EXCELLENT.

He'd be REALLY good on MSNBC, and would FINALLY add some color to their op-ed programs in the evening.

Dude, Larry is passionate. I LOVE it when he corners some right-winger; he's like a pissed off pitt bull fighting for his life!!!

Lawrence also gets RED-HOT angry with those fools... I mean to the point where you figure he's gonna jump somebody.

O'Donnell is good... he's just not Keith.

Cholly,

I've known Mark Thompson since the mid to late 80's when he led protests at the University of the District of Columbia thru his years at WOL Black talk radio.

He's not tv ready  with a head full of dreads and huge weight gain. Plus he had some issues with his ex from Somolia that got testy a while back. Too militant for MSNBC. Give Eugene Robinson a show.

........not familiar with the Mark Thompson bruh, of whom both you and Cholly speak.  Don't know if his "dreads" might be a disqualifier for him to host on MSNBC, but the right-wing would have a field day with the other personal issues you mentioned.

While I personally like Eugene Robinson, I don't think his personality is suited to host an hour long program.  He is thorough and analytical, but the constant "grinning" is concerning.  Perhaps I'm being a little unfair to Mr. Robinson. I'm not sure whether I would feel the same way if he were non-black.

But when I see a brutha constantly "grinning" on a program surrounded by all whites, it makes me think he is too self-conscious about ingratiating himself with the whites to appear, say, a little less threatening.

Like many here, I'm old enough to remember a time when I was counseled as a young boy that, when around whites, behave in a manner that would make the white folks "comfortable" with you.

In other words, "don't show your color."  :(

MSNBC gave a show to a guy of Turkish origin before they'd give a show to an African American.

These news stations don't respect American Americans. There are plenty of African Americans that could do an excellent job with a political show.

Lets be real it won't be "the Black hour" on that station.

There are lots of folks who can get a show. I think the the brother hosting Black Enterprise's "In Our World" is very good.  I remember Carlos Watson who had a show briefly on CNN. As for sisters I think Donna Brazile would be a good fit.

I like Brother Robinson too, but dang, Strike, . . .I said the same thing.  I also think that about Magic Johnson and Cam Newton.  Particularly Newton when one announcer made a big deal about it as a positive.

Carlos Watson is good, and had good range.  I've always like Ed Gordon, but don't know if he could be conversational, or direct enough.  Do we have Tavis overload?  For diversity sake . . . That Richard Lui on MSNBC is good too.

The guy they put on at the 6:00 spot won't be around long.  Dude stammered all night.
Don't you think that's some information I'd like to know?  I like Tacos . . .

Cosmetic. Nothing that can't be addressed.

Mark Thompson is VERY thoughtful and knowledgable. He is also passionate and an unappologetic progressive.

BTW.... His audience on Sirius/XM is predominately WHITE... even though he is BLACK AS HELL on the air.

For those of you who DON'T know about brother Thompson, he is an ordained minister who doesn't throw his religion in peoples faces. His show is on Sirius Left starting a 5:00pm EST and 6:00pm EST on XM. IF you have sat radio and haven't heard his program, I STRONGLY suggest you check it out.

Then you'll agree that he is MORE ready for MSNBC than Cenk is.... :tiptoe:

I have NO idea why MSNBC got rid of Carlos Watson. One day he was there, the next he wasn't.

He hasn't been able to land a network gig since.

And while I don't think 'Genes smiling is the problem others do, I agree that he personality is not ideal for a TV Op-Ed program.

Ed Gordon is a right-leaning centrist. He doesn't have the personality for MSNBC. And Donna Braziel is a DLC, third-way Democrat who can add color commentary but NOT carry the lead of an Op-Ed program. Besides; she's tied at the contractual hip to CNN anyhow.

Mark Thompson is ready NOW.
