I know Bethune Cookman and Famu host them for a week during the summer. The HS students that attend BCU's band camp do a parade at Universal Studios at the end of camp to showcase. I believe Famu's students have a parade around campus and does a halftime show at Bragg stadium to showcase what they've learned. In terms of numbers I would say Famu has the most successful one. They have nearly 500 kids attend whereas BCU has capped the number of participants at 250. Oh yeah, both have sectional concerts i.e woodwinds, sousaphones, trumpets, auxiliary, etc.

In my opinion, the best band camps for high school students are:

Southern University
Florida A&M
Grambling State
Clark-Atlanta
Hampton
Norfolk State

I think that other HBCU's should look into the possibility of hosting a band camp... I wonder why Morgan State, Bowie or Howard don't host a camp with a large following in the DMV area  as well as the larger population of African-American youth in the region.  This could be a great recruiting tool as well as a solid fundraiser.

My friends and I went to NCCU's "Band Blast" our junior year and had a great time.  I met a brotha from Hillside there who is one of my good friends to this day.  Great event.

They can be if implemented correctly.

For example, VSU has a band blast for HS students with about 250 participants but those students usually go to NSU and other schools.

This is exactly what I wa talking about.  I think that it's aazing that I like in the DC Metro Area and this is the first time that I have ever heard or seen information of an HBCU Band Camp.
