Jackson State recognized by Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching

From The Clarion-Ledger
Associated Press

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recognizes four Mississippi colleges and universities and two in Louisiana for working with their communities. They’re among 154 schools that applied for the community engagement classification, and 115 which received it this week.

The Mississippi institutions are Millsaps College and Jackson State University; the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. The Louisiana schools are Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge and Loyola University of New Orleans.

Louisiana State and Tulane universities were among 119 schools on the foundation’s list in 2008.

For more information, read the press release from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching at http://www.carnegiefoundation.org/newsroom/press-releases/carnegie-selects-colleges-and-universities-2010-community-engagement-classification.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.

As a result we are coming to you directly for your financial support>

Please consider supporting our efforts to foster free and open discussion of current issues as they relate to the topics you are interested in.
