Open Forum On The Future Of The SWAC (FEBRUARY 8, 2011)

CONTACTS: Michael Rubenstein 601-982-8264 Robert Luckett 601-979-3935

Amidst dwindling budgets, shrinking attendance, crumbling facilities and talk of school closure and consolidation, the future of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has rarely been more uncertain.

Join some of the SWAC’s best-known figures for an open dialogue Tuesday February 8, 2011 entitled “The Future of the SWAC” at the Trustmark Conference Center at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson, MS.

Presented by the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State University and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum, the event is free and open to the public though seating is limited. Doors open at 6:00 pm with the program beginning promptly at 6:30 pm.

Among those committed to attend are Marino Casem and W.C. Gorden, the winningest football coaches at Alcorn State University and Jackson State University respectively; current Mississippi Valley State University athletic director Donald Ray Sims; current Jackson State golf coach Eddie Payton; and former Mississippi Valley and current Hampton University athletic director Lonza Hardy. The program will be moderated by veteran SWAC observer and long-time USA Today reporter Roscoe Nance.

For further information contact Robert Luckett at the Margaret Walker Center at 601-979-3935 or Michael Rubenstein at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum at 1-800-280-FAME (3263).

All aint well with any of the 4 HBCU conferences.  All of our conferences need to have an open, public forum to address the issues with our confereces.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.

As a result we are coming to you directly for your financial support>
