He gave up this:

For one last year of subpar football.

He's the GOAT for sure, but his life is going to be a mess without football.

He needs to get a 23-25 year old pregnant and have a "DO-over"

it takes some SUPER DUPER willpower for a pro athlete to leave the game while at the top of their game.

Barry Sanders comes to mind.

You are right. But TB12 is not at the top of his game. He shoulda rolled out when he won his last Super Bowl.

That’s what I’m saying he should have left after winning last SB.

Plus Todd Bowles is not a favorite of mind to winning anything    :tongue2:

…………yeah, TOTALLY agree.

FM, I was a HIGE fan of Muhammad Ali. I was particularly inspired by the principled stand he took about being drafted into the Vietnam war. But, I gotta tell ya, I was distraught when dude’s boxing skills diminished and he suffered those humiliating defeats.

I was able to reconcile my feelings about Ali a few years ago when I visited that FABULOUS museum in his honor in Louisville. Dude was an impressive historic figure in every respect. But he was the LAST sports hero I ever had or will have.

What was the most impressive thing about Ali to you?

Calling a dark skin black man in Frazier a monkey?
When he endorsed Reagan in the 1984 election over mondale despite the fact that over 90% of black voters voted mondale and Reagan was a white nationalist.
When he had to cheat to beat Henry Cooper in 1963?
When he was gifted 2 decisions against Black Hercules?
When he ran out on his 5 year old son?

I mean Ali did a good thing in avoiding Vietnam, but he SUCKED in almost every other way. He wasnt even that good. Look at his record. He fought 2 good heavyweights in his prime. Archie Moore was like 50. Sonny Liston was probably as old as his mid 40's(He was so old he didnt even have a birth certificate)

He then punished a few good guys who would be light heavyweight at best today(Patterson and Frazier). Patterson really was a middleweight who carried extra pounds. Frazier was blind, and a prolific dodger of truth threats. He fought Ali because he knew he wasnt anything special. He was forced to fight Foreman and Foreman walked through him like nothing. Same would have happened if he fought black hercules, but that was his friend so they never fought.

Only good win Ali really had under his belt was Foreman. Shavers just wanted a pay day, and after Spinks beat him 1 time he partied so hard he didnt really care about the rematches. Ali was really just a 1960's version of Larry Holmes, who could be used to beat a "bum of the week". Larry Holmes was better though.
