One sided games
« on: January 10, 2023, 06:47:16 AM »
Am I the only person that has a problem with their school playing culinary schools and Bible colleges and then celebrating as if we've done something fantastic when we win by 40 to 50 even 60 points.
Does the school really expect to pack their facility and make money to support non revenue sports. Who want to see those games. There should be no reason not to put a Dll game in the place of those games. Maybe I'm missing something, :police: but I assure you I'm not the only one out to lunch with this scenario.

If you are a fan it should not matter who your school plays.  People with that mindset are fans of the other school.

It does matter who you play. That bird is 100% correct. Schools play who they want to associate themselves with. Just like you don't hang out with just anybody. There is a reason why fans don't come out for these games... fans the love NCCU.

Most of the time coaches want to fill out their home slate. Not trying to spend the month of November and December on the road. Unfortunately that is what ends up happening…

Our coach has scheduled games with literally every college in the city including D3 Gallaudet University the only deaf serving institution in the world.I think the goodwill part is hard to quantify but to us its a snooze fest but to them and the players parents it means much more.

I have to agree with you. I’d rather us play WSSU or even JCSU than carver bible college. we could replace those games with games this against quality mid-majors and help our RPI. One game maybe but 3/4 that doesn’t help us none and they players don’t get quality looks at competition. It’s gonna cost your program more money to play them than anything.

WSSU would love to come to Durham for a yearly game. Those games with NCCU, in your gym, were some of the best games I have ever attended.

El Cotton, where you been?

I agree with you, but doubtful it’s gonna change.  CIAA games will count as an exhibition, not counted in the W/L column.
It will likely cost more to bring them to Durham than what he currently schedules.

After those $ games, we get a chance to even the team’s psychological with some big blowouts to our advantage.

I think he (Morten) should rethink that strategy and play a tougher schedule including maybe 2 CIAA foes for revenue and keeping us on our toes.  We keep losing those NCAA first four games while our other HBCU teams have won.

Something needs to change.

I am going to have to agree as well.  I attend those games and wow, it's a struggle.

Let's just tell the truth.  D1 hbcu's playing D2 hbcu's is too risky. The D2's in a lot of cases would win.

Probably right, but if NCCU wants to win a NCAA tournament game, we need to play a tougher schedule.
and that means stop playing the cupcakes we currently play and replace them with some CIAA schools for revenue and competition, and also continue adding the regional teams like we had this year.

So what are you suggesting? Play more D2 colleges? Because there aren't too many D1 out of conference colleges trying to visit our D1 HBCUs.
I'm cool with more D2 HBCUs playing our D1 HBCUs. The year my SPARTANS beat Missouri in the Big Dance, guess who we lost to earlier that season? D2 Elizabeth City State University, if I'm not mistaken. We regrouped, and learned from the loss, with the highlight being a first round upset of Missouri.
So, in essence, I'd rather see us play old rivals from D2.
