WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leader Kevin McCarthy was dealt a historic defeat in first-round voting Tuesday to become House speaker, vowing to try again but sending the new Congress into opening day tumult as conservative colleagues opposed his leadership.

McCarthy had pledged a “battle on the floor” for as long as it takes to overcome right-flank fellow Republicans who were refusing to give him their votes. But it was not at all clear how the embattled GOP leader could rebound after becoming the first House speaker nominee in 100 years to fail to win the gavel from his fellow party members on the initial vote.

 .......could not have been more pleased about the first balloting for Speaker.  The Dems held firm and were unanimous in support of Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker with ALL 212 Dem House conference votes.  The other 222 were split between KM and others.  On the first day on the job, ONE MAGGAT was absent and I have been trying to figure out who that is.  And, no, it is NOT that clown, George Santos.  That mofo is present, dodging reporters and their questions at every turn. 

KM is WOEFULLY unfit to be Speaker.  He has little to ZERO integrity, and will sell his GRANDMOTHER for the job if that's what it took. 

Round 2 balloting has already begun.

 ......well, voting hasn't yet closed on round 2, but the Dems held firm again with all 212 members of their conference voting for their leader, our good brutha Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker. McCarthy's opponents in the MAGGAT conference are trying to humiliate dude, and they're doing a damn good job of it.  The way it works, NOTHNG in the House can get done until they elect a Speaker.  Voting will close soon and then on to Round 3.

.....guys, Hakeem Jeffries has received the unanimous support of ALL 212 members of the Dem conference in both rounds of voting for Speaker.  You need a majority of all 435 members present, 218 votes, to be elected Speaker.  If fewer total number of Representatives are present for voting, then, its a majority of that number.  Don't know how long this thing could go on, but if homeboy is ONLY 6 votes away from being elected Speaker, well...........

......me too, GK.  I gotta tell ya, ever since that Trump dude descended the elevator in Trump Tower in 2015 to announce his first candidacy for POTUS, this country began a downward spiral in upholding democracy.  That changed with President Biden's election. 

Kevin McCarthy has ZERO core principles.  He is ALL about himself and nothing else.  I hope the Dems continue to stand firm.  We might REALLY see some history being made with this congress.
