Savannah State To Host 2023 SIAC Basketball Tournament Feb. 25-March 4

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has selected Savannah, Georgia and Tiger Arena as the official site of the 2022-2023 SIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament, presented by Cricket, the conference announced Tuesday in a press release.

"I am excited for Savannah State University to serve as the host for the 2022-2023 SIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament, presented by Cricket," said SIAC Commissioner Anthony Holloman. "After exploring multiple options for this year's tournament, I believe that Savannah will provide the best combination of facilities and cultural engagement from a student-athlete perspective while being able to accommodate our fans, alumni, and staff."

The tournament was held in Rock Hill, S.C. for the past three years. Other prior host cities for the tournament included Birmingham, Ala. and Atlanta, Ga.

On another note....Why is the tourney 8 days?

I think it's time to do like softball and volleyball and just invite the top 4 teams from each division.

SSU has a beautiful campus in a beautiful city with nice hotels, tourist attrqctions, African tours if marketed right.

I am am afraid this administration will fail  to promote this tourney.

I agree.  Only the top 8 teams, should participate in the tourney. An alternative would be to extend that to the top 9, with the #1 seed getting a bye and plays the winner of the 8 vs 9 seeds.

I’m not mad at it. Savannah is one of the friendliest and most charming cities in the south and Savannah State has a nice venue on campus.

A jewel that has continue to hire inept leaders at the top and in athletics.  I blame the worst alumni association in hbcu land.

On another note....Why is the tourney 8 days?

It could be stretching out to eight games is due to playing most games at night.  Savannah State could use their gym/arena for classes during the day.
Fayetteville State by choice. Bronco by the Grace of GOD.

Call it a hunch but I don’t think there will be 8 days worth of games played. Perhaps there will be other events surrounding the tournament. Also, I’m pretty sure ESPN would have an issue committing their resources to eight days worth of basketball to a DII HBCU conference.

But I could be wrong. This is the SIAC we’re talking about. H*ll, is the ESPN deal even still active this season? I hope so. I’m sure there are others out there like me that like to binge on HBCU tournament basketball.
