With FAMU's schedule this year, the only way they get in the playoffs is a win over Jackson State or North Carolina. A competitive defeat to the Tar Heels (at least the first half) was not going to be enough to impress the committee. In future years, FAMU can schedule their 3 non-conference games with at 2 teams from other FCS conferences and the third can be either vs. a DII HBCU or an FBS team.

University of Delaware only got admitted because of the perceived strength of the Colonial Athletic Association over the SWAC and Delaware's history in the playoffs (a couple of National Titles & Runner Up finishes). If their win over FBS Navy (4-7) was considered, the committee would weigh that more favorably than FAMU's loss to UNC.

I would add that being associated with the CAA got Delaware in the door. But when it comes to last few teams, resumes are compared directly.  The first four out were Austin Peay, Chattanooga, FAMU, and Rhode Island.

Delaware beat Rhode Island and has a FBS win. None of the other bubble teams can claim a FBS win.

Delaware's three HBCU wins (Del State, Hampton, Morgan State) got them in the playoffs.

Wile^^^I’ve got an even more SALIENT question. Of what interest is ANY of this to NCCU?

If NCCU were not in the Celebration Bowl, we would have received an invite to the playoffs as an at-large.  Yes we played a D2 school and a non-NCAA school.  But we also went 3-1 against OOC FCS schools to include a conference champion and a playoff contender.

As far as my credentials. . I vote in the AGS poll.  I follow FCS football all year and have been following for over a decade.

Here were my predictions for playoff selections:

Quote
My shot at it:

AQ-11: SDSU, Sacramento State, St Francis, Gardner-Webb, Holy Cross, Samford, EKU, Southeastern Louisiana, Davidson, Southeast Missouri St., William & Mary,

At-large: Montana State, North Dakota State, University of Incarnate Word, Weber State, Furman, New Hampshire, Richmond, Elon, UC-Davis, North Dakota, Tennessee-Martin, Fordham, Mercer

Last Four In: Mercer, North Dakota, Tennessee Martin, UC-Davis
First Four Out: Idaho, Delaware, Chattanooga, Montana
Next Four: Austin Peay, Florida A&M, Youngstown St, Rhode Island

UC-Davis @ North Dakota to #1 Sacramento State
Mercer @ Southeastern Louisiana to #8 Incarnate Word
Southeast Missouri @ UT-Martin to #4 North Dakota State
Davidson @ Elon to #5 Samford

Gardner Webb @ Furman to #2 South Dakota State
Saint Francis @ Richmond to #7 William and Mary
Eastern Kentucky @ Weber State to #3 Montana State
New Hampshire @Fordham to #6 Holy Cross

I correctly predicted 10 of the 13 at-larges, but in my next four out; you see the three at-larges that I missed.  My next four out has three of the four teams that the committee claimed were in their first four out.

Back to your original question; perhaps this doesn't concern NCCU.  But I'm speaking for myself and no one else.  Finally, the persecution complex is tiring. . . which is why I posted.  There is no grand conspiracy against FAMU.

……………………………………………………………………….,

Not sure about Div 2, but there is only ONE HBCU FCS school which has a DOCUMENTED history of winning playoff games. And that’s the school located on the highest of seven hills in Tallahassee.

So if THIS is the criterion which weighs most heavily with the selection committee, the Rattlers should be in almost every year…………:::RIGHT???
…………I thought it might be helpful to the UNBIASED observer of this thread if I reposted what I stated earlier. Beyond all of the MINDLESS DRIVEL which too often drives the discussion on this board, FAMU’s playoff history should have been accorded some deference in the playoffs selection process.

But, hey, FAMU getting screwed? Well, that’s perfectly fine for the school most love to hate on this board.

Anyway, I’ve said enough and, quite frankly, am sounding redundant.

So, FAMU is out of the playoffs, Jackson State “conveniently” hides behind SCG and Celebration Bowl to AVOID being tested by some of the “traditional” FCS powers, and it appears that’s just fine by folks who opine on this board.

You are right about Jackson State. They are hiding from the big boys. Deion keep making excuses while beating up on SWAC schools with less talent and resources. I love what he is doing for HBCUs, but he needs to show the world what he has or stop talking and taking bows. If he wants to be our God, then do some "God like" things like beating good schools on his level.
 .....thank you, bruh, for putting this alot more succinctly than your humble poster has been able to do.  Winning the SCG (likely) and then proceeding to the Celebration Bowl, where they will ALSO be likely favored, is one thing.  But playing against the BEST of FCS is something Deion has not done, notwithstanding all of the BOMBAST.

So, Ram, this post entitles you to at least ONE of the legs of tomorrow's roasted, smoked or fried turkeys for Thanksgiving Day.  ;D

KnuckDogg......others agree with you, including, I'm sure, some Rattlers.  But I respectfully disagree about not scheduling Albany State.  Perhaps its nostalgia or something, but back in the 70's when I was an undergrad at FAMU, Albany State was routinely on the Rattlers schedule.  Drive time between Tallahassee and Albany, Ga, is only about a couple of hours or so, and the games, as I recall, were fairly competitive.

Look, in all candor, I'm not even sure if FAMU has stated a DEFINITIVE position about whether it wants to participate in the FCS playoffs.  I don't think this particular squad would have performed well, but I also think it is disingenuous to suggest that our scheduling a historic rival like Albany State cost us participation.  The Rattlers performance in the second game of the season was horrible and inexplicable, and if there is one contest that bumped us, THAT would be the culprit not 'bany State.

But FAMU is the ONLY FCS negro college that has participated in the playoffs before and actually WON games.  All of this bullschitt about being "contractually obligated" to play in conference and black college championship games is offered to provide a convenient excuse to avoid playing the top PWC's in the FCS division.

If you sced say you sced:shrug:

………………………………………………………………….,

#2. Jackson State is contractually bound to the SWAC Championship Game and ultimately the Celebration Bowl. Even if we weren't, we nor any other school in the SWAC has given a fat fugg about the playoffs. We're Black-Black around these  parts and will gladly support our classics over an event you get pimped by the NCAA. Yall claimed your fans were subjected to racism in Hammond, LA last year yet still want to be apart of that system...even bidding to host a game where the NCAA takes 70% of your gate revenue.

???…….well, here you have it, folks. More MINDLESS rant from Jackson State’s sole representative on the board, talking ALOT and saying very little substantively.   Wtf is the origin or definition of the term, “Black-Black”? I guess that’s more of that tic-tock/Worldstar foolishness.

So the consensus best HBCU FCS school in the land is “contractually bound” to play in the SCG and, ultimately, the Celebration Bowl. But even if these contractual constraints didn’t exist, Jackson State wouldn’t participate in the playoffs anyway because, well, we’re “Black-Black” in Mississippi.

One word comes to mind…..COWARD. Another word comes to mind…….FRAUD.

And the silliness continues………………,

You conveniently skipped over the NCAA taking 70% of your gate revenue. JSU is Black-Black as it pertains to us supporting Black businesses and not willingly giving away our Black dollars to some pilgrams who don't even want us at their event.

Btw, did the NCAA give yall back the check yall sent them to host a first round game?

FAMU hasn't played against "big boys" from the FCS since 2016 (Coastal Carolina, a program that is now in the FBS). So whose really hiding?

Our 2022 schedule featured an FCS OOC team with the #2 recruiting class in the nation. Your 2022 scheduled featured a D2 HBCU.

We can all tell who is "scared" of competition.  :snicker

Looking at their schedule over the past 8-9 years, there has been some seasons where they've scheduled a beatdown game and TWO D2 schools. Like, it was just vibes. No thought at all.lol

In the last 10 years WSSU has played and beaten more national powers than any school in HBCU history. In fact, both HBCU DII conferences play national powers on yearly bases, and win.

Everything you just said is what schools say when they can't compete or in hiding. You are ranked in the top ten and have some of the best talent in the nation. What else do you need? Deion is wanting guaranteed wins so he only plays schools he knows he can beat. He averages 43,000 fans a game and the best facilities and coaches but yet he's scared. Maybe he doesn't want to be out coached. But even Steve Wonder can see he's hiding. Playing schools with 2,000 students with facilities worse than most Texas high schools... not God like.

We've been worshiping ya'll, so now do something. Play God.

WSSU had that success in 2012 under Maynor and I applaud you all. We do not have the same mission as WSSU or D2 schools.

JSU is still building a solid program. IMO, there is no point in playing top FCS teams if our goal is the Celebration Bowl. JSU is an underfunded HBCU in the poorest state in the union so playing PWIs (IMO), whether it be on the road or at home, does not serve us well, financially. I don't have a problem scheduling a ranked PWI for Homecoming because our attendance will be fine but playing NDSU just to say we played/beat them is asinine! We don't care about white validation...wanna know why? Because we already have the #1 recruiting class, the #1 fanbase and are ranked in the Top 5 WITHOUT scheduling PWIs.

Let Jackson State continue to reinvent what it means to be successful. Let us continue to chase the bag. We are showing Black America what can happen when you invest in/support your own. JSU doesn't need PWIs to be relevant, competitive or for validation; they need us.

Re: Florida A&M in the FCS playoffs was clear snub

Coach Prime also stated we HBCUs consistently get beat in the trenches (OL) and wants to have depth at that position before we schedule those teams so we can actually beat them. Yall schedule these PWIs just to schedule them with no real game plan or depth.

You said all that to say you're not competitive on your level. A bunch of excuses. ALL sports is about winning on your level. If ya'll are okay with beating weaker schools I'm good with that. But you can't be our God doing that. You can't ask for the hearts and minds of the HBCU world being cowards. FAMU want to take on that challenge. I'm loving them for wanting to step up. For not making excuses. For not being afraid.
