In my opinion,  I think our players wanted to make a statement to the school administration about the shenanigans that were going on at the time. These student are not dumb and know how to get their attention.

With FAMU's schedule this year, the only way they get in the playoffs is a win over Jackson State or North Carolina. A competitive defeat to the Tar Heels (at least the first half) was not going to be enough to impress the committee. In future years, FAMU can schedule their 3 non-conference games with at 2 teams from other FCS conferences and the third can be either vs. a DII HBCU or an FBS team.

University of Delaware only got admitted because of the perceived strength of the Colonial Athletic Association over the SWAC and Delaware's history in the playoffs (a couple of National Titles & Runner Up finishes). If their win over FBS Navy (4-7) was considered, the committee would weigh that more favorably than FAMU's loss to UNC.

In my opinion,  I think our players wanted to make a statement to the school administration about the shenanigans that were going on at the time. These student are not dumb and know how to get their attention.

…….bossman, while I usually show considerable deference to you on all things concerning Rattler football, what you’re implying here is just a bridge too far for this negro grandfather Rattler alumnus. You are suggesting our boys “threw” the JSU game to make a point.

Seriously, Big homie? What proof is there, IF ANY, on that point? 

Look, the same justifications for the Rattlers exclusion from the playoffs are the same ones offered every year. I will admit that the JSU loss was significant. But is the Orange&Green going to be excluded on the basis of ONE loss which occurred on the SECOND game of the season?………REALLY???

I was initially inclined to dismiss this as the same rant you’ve offered for the last five years. But it appears you have “pivoted” somewhat, apparently resigned to the fact the Rattlers are in the Swac to stay, unmoved by your constant refrain of it not being a good “fit” for FAMU.

So NOW you are suggesting a revised Celebration Bowl format, this time incorporating 2nd place finishers. Don’t know if that’s something FAMU or any other conference school might be interested in. But I am pleased to know that you are apparently accepting the fact that FAMU will do what’s in IT’S Best interest.

I still do not agree with the Florida schools joining our conference because it will have ripple effects, financially, for smaller institutions like Valley and UAPB.

I do believe our 2nd placed teams should have a platform to participate in a post-season event that does not take away revenue (like the FCS Playoffs) and allows them to play on a national stage. We all need to stop trying to integrate ourselves into spaces where we clearly are not welcomed.

I guess there is two things to look at from this situation.  #1, is it worth alienating the culture and not playing a D2 school like FAMU did (Albany State) since this was a factor the hurt the strength of schedule according to the committee.  We know that this game was a significant financial boost for ASU.  #2, Will the new SWAC scheduling model allow for greater chance at post season representation.

I continue to be somewhat troubled by your inclination to use the possessive pronoun “our” when referencing the Swac. It almost suggests you have some kind of “proprietary” interest in the conference.
 
Nonetheless, your humble poster detects a latent fear in your comments about FAMU. And I think it relates to something others have already alluded to. And that is some apprehension about coming to Tallahassee and playing at the “lovely” Bragg Memorial Stadium. But coming to Tallahassee is an eventuality that cannot be altered. So your humble poster might suggest to you that the sooner you face this fear, the better off you’ll be.

So in the words of that radio advice guru, Dr. Laura: Go take on the day!.

I don't know about FAMU being snubbed or WE continue to fail in not deciding whether we want the Playoffs or HBCU revenue. As we've discussed about the Division II playoffs, it comes down to strength of schedule and teams you play within your Division.

There are 2 ways to look at it. Yes, strength of schedule plays a role, but also teams that were ranked lower than FAMU received a bid to the playoffs. Another thing that hurt FAMU is that they struggled with teams in the conference that they shouldn't have struggled with given talent they have. And that's a result of poor game management. I'll probably be the only with this opinion, but we were 9-2 this season by default, not because we raised any hell on the field.

And not to mention other opponents -- like Tennessee State (which lost to D2 lane), Alabama A&M and others -- played JSU a whole lot tougher than FAMU did. Hell, JSU beat them worse than the P5 team they played.

With the mind-control that Mighty JSU has over FAMU, I can assure you that is not the case. I genuinely have an issue with our Commissioner adding teams outside of the SWAC's footprint which adds an extra financial burden on our member institutions.

I was thinking the same thing. I doubt that it will be a tough sale.

The SWAC has enjoyed not dealing with the politics and scam that is the FCS Playoffs for over 20 years. We have reinvented what it means to be successful in the post-season; so much so that other FCS conferences have expressed interest in our model. Let's continue to move forward.
