What do you think? I have not warmed up to her. I switch to CNN during her hour and go back when Lawrence comes on.

In September, on evenings “Alex Wagner Tonight” aired, MSNBC saw a stunning year-over-year drop from 2021, when Maddow hosted. In the key 25-54 advertising demo, Wagner’s show lost 50% of Maddow’s audience, sinking from an average in 2021 of 304,000 demo viewers to 151,000 in 2022. And in total viewers, the numbers were down 34%, from 2.4 million to 1.6 million.

Shoot, turn Roland Martin loose up in that blicky (I know Lady J don't like him , but he would pull some viewers). He'd be going upside mo-foes heads though. Wouldn't be this milquetoast drivel.

I'm afraid Maddow is so good, that spot will be the death of anyone who takes it. If Maddow would go away completely, someone could grow into the position over time. But with her on every Monday as a reminder of how good she is, it has become the worst spot on TV.

Rachel put in the work, did the research, led the topics and brought in the others to discuss.

Wagner, seems woefully unprepared and her guests lead the show and the topics. She just seems to pop in a question or two.

In essence, she does not seem to be able to carry a more intelligent audience.

.........may I respectfully push back on this a tad.  I think the criticism of Wagner by various peeps has been unfair.  I've been watching MSNBC long enough to remember when Rachel Maddow was a "newbie," strongly endorsed for that position by the brilliant but BOASTFULLY non-conformist, Keith Olbermann.  Rachel did not start her prime time hour on the network as glib and smooth as she appears today.  It took some time for her to be as polished as she now appears.  I like Alex and believe she is every bit Rachel's "intellectual" equal.  But, as Cap^^^noted, Rachel's audience was so big that ANY diminution in her numbers would be perceived as almost a failure. 

Now it may very well be that positioning Alex in that 8pm (CST) slot is not the optimum fit.  But I do think the girl is entitled to some deference and some grace to allow her time to grow in the slot.

Anyway, just my $0.02.

I agree Strike, folk have to grow into the job. It takes a while for folk to grow into a position. I was not a fan of Rachel early on. I use to absolutely hate Lawrence O'Donnell, but over the last couple years, I think he has found his groove. He's a lot more aggressive now.  Alex will never be Rachel, but she must develop what she is good at.

…….actually she DOES wear the same outfit every nite.  She said she is MOST comfortable in that outfit. And why WOULD she make all of the cosmetic changes you suggest? Her ratings numbers are off the charts. Her audience is perfectly fine with the way she looks.

Just because your alma mater changes athletic conferences every two years or so in search of an “identity” doesn’t mean everyone else is equally confused.

Try not to fall into the trap of judging a person based solely on their appearance.

I feel Nicolle Wallace is the next best person on MSNBC. She has lots of personality, very likable, and takes command of the topic. Like Rachel, she is the sun where all planets revolve around.

Bruh……I like Nicolle too. She’s sharp, knowledgeable and respectful of the people she interviews. She does very well in that 2 hrs late afternoon slot.

But I tell you who among the MSNBC personalities I REALLY am feeling these days, and that’s my boy, Chris Hayes. Don’t let the geeky/nerdy looks fool you. Dude is on top of his game and will slice you up like peaches if you come on his show with some stupid stuff. Chris Hayes is my dude.

Yeah he's good  but if i was doing an A&T Aggie, he would be discounted for those creepy looks.  He's that guy in the reference dept. at the library. The one who got bullied in school but now is a rock star because he's on tv.  I could have sworn the won the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions.
