Ex-Arizona QB K’Hari Lane found his perfect fit at a HBCU

K’Hari Lane started his career at a PAC-12 school, but he’s found a home with the four-time defending CIAA Southern Division champions of Fayetteville State University.

The Montezuma, GA native was famously profiled in Bleacher Report for having no FBS offers despite having one of the most prolific quarterback careers in Georgia prep history. He eventually signed with Arizona where he redshirted in 2017 and didn’t see the field in 2018.

Lane left Arizona and headed for Hutchinson Community College — where he didn’t see the field the entire 2019 season.

“The the luxury of what I consider a Division I —  it’s a bigger opportunity financially —  but at the end of the day, it’s all football and it’s all about terminology,” Lane said. “Fayetteville State, before I came it was just gratitude and being grateful for another opportunity because I was in a situation where I hadn’t played in four years — since my senior year of high school — and so I was just grateful to get an opportunity, someone who wanted me to be their quarterback.”

K’Hari Lane made his college debut against Elizabeth City State on Sept. 4. 2021.
There were actually several HBCUs at the Division II level interested in his services. So how did he end up at Fayetteville?

“Before coming (to Fayetteville State) I didn’t know much about the school or the program, but I just knew that I didn’t want to go to Tuskegee or Fort Valley State,” Lane told HBCU Gameday.

???…….I was really enjoying reading this story. Thought it was inspiring. And the fact this boy is from Montezuma, Ga caught my eye as well. One of my homegirls from South Fl attended Mercer Univ and dated a boy there from Montezuma.

But then at the very end of the story, the excerpt I reposted appeared^^^. And that disturbed me a tad. Does anyone know why this boy took shots at Tuskegee and Valley?

Ignorance. Delusions of grandeur developed by the FBS Power 5 machine.

As the guy who sat across from him — it was an honest answer. He said, no knock, FVSU was too close to home and Skegee wasn’t a good fit. I don’t see the issue.

Watcher and board……..after reading Watcher’s post^^^, I realized that I had ONLY relied on y’s edited version of the article linked in the lead post^^^. And when I clicked on the link, I further realized that this kid had not slammed Skegee or Valley at all. So I should have known better than to rely SOLELY on y’s post to form a conclusion, but that’s what I did, so my apologies.

Thanks, Mr. Watcher, for setting the record straight.

I did the same thing 79 did and didn't look for myself, so I definitely understand what he just wrote and his reasoning is 100 percent spot on.

Yet and still, the vast majority (as we  already well know) of 3-5 star players in football and basketball go with the Power 5 route because the "promises" of stardom and possible pro fortunes (and because sometimes, HBCUs don't do their due diligence and go after these kids too). A lot of these kids unfortunately find out that all that glitters ain't gold and they get lost in the Power 5/FBS/Mid-Major shuffle.

So, sometimes, kids like the player featured in this thread just have to learn the hard way, then make their way someplace where they won't be glued to the bench for 4-plus years.

It is what it is.

He didn't take shots at anyone.  It's just the truth.  Had you clicked on the link and read the whole article you would have known that.

Plenty of athletes in the Fayetteville area don't want to go to FSU because it's too close to home.  Many kids want to leave home.  Nothing wrong with that.

???^^^dude, I cleared all of this up in my post on this thread which dropped at 6:50pm last nite.  FM's clarifying post dropped about an hour after mine.  So your last post was COMPLETELY un-necessary. But I'm SERIOUSLY beginning to wonder about something.  Several peeps have accused you of being "stupid".  I have never thought that, but concluded you derived some pleasure from "acting" stupid.  But now I'm beginning to wonder if its really an "act".

You've been on this board long enough to know I rarely post the whole article.  That's why the links are titled "Read more."  Are you so lazy or stupid that you haven't learned that?

You really need to get out more.
