How many HBCUs DII schools have soccer???This is great for VSU....but the MEAC doesn't have soccer, or Men's/Women's lacrosse. Guess they will have to do like Howard and a couple others and have those teams play in other leagues for the sports the MEAC doesn't sponsor.Good to see VSU investing in it's programs. What makes yall think VSU is adding these sports programs for a possible move to the MEAC, especially when you consider that the MEAC as a whole does not offer soccer or men's women's lacrosse? They might have some other conference in their crosshairs,,,,,,,,Why do you think they would go to Division one Conference that they have no history or relationship with as a start up fcs? You never know...D1 conferences are positioning themselves for strength, stability, and cost reduction. The same things that make VSU a prize for the MEAC would also make VSU a good add for any conference with a mid eastern footprint. I see them joining the MEAC with their arch rival NSU...but would the admins be open to an offer from a conference like the CAA in their southern division... ... then VSU would get a baked in long time rival in a conference game with Hampton, an old CIAA foe in a conference game with NCA&T ...and big instate games against conference foes William & Mary and Richmond. Then add to that, they can still play their arch rival NSU and any other HBCUs that want to play (NCCU, Howard, Morgan, SCSU) as OOC games. Plus a conference like the CAA offer all their current sports and the new ones they just added. IJS, VSU is probably weighing all options as they consider this big move.

Dude the CAA isn't taking in any D2 start up. Hell the only reason they took you guys after years of being ignored is because of the situation force them too. If they were to take one, you can bet your house it won't be an hbcu with only a $56mil endowment

If they were to take one, you can bet your house it won't be an hbcu with only a $56mil endowmentI doubt the CAA would take to either, but I was making the point that there are other options out there...scenarios that the admins at VSU might be weighing. We don't know who they talking to...what their end game is, or what they hope to achieve. To say their only option to move up is the MEAC might be short sighted. VSU could have moved up years ago...and joined the MEAC when Hampton...Norfolk...NCCU...or WSSU left the CIAA, but they didn't. VSU is building up, building out, and is in no rush. It will be very interesting to see what they do in the end.Adding sports they didn't have to add...particularly women's sport's needed to offset in scholarship increases for football is all to telling.
As more students are choosing HBCUs over PWIs, more sports have to be offered. Be it club teams or NCAA.
Great additions by VSU,but my question is this? Why are our schools so late on adding women's soccer? That sport is a no brainer.

They are where they want to be. Just because ya'll want white masters doesn't mean everyone does. VSU probably added those sports for Title 9 reasons, or they simply was ask to appease their white students. After all, VSU is State supported. They can't fully fund the football team, so why add sports unless they were forced to. It's not like they are a national power. Who adds a room when they can't furnished what they have?
Any VSU fans got renderings of the new soccer\lacrosse field?
