Great additions by VSU,but my question is this? Why are our schools so late on adding women's soccer? That sport is a no brainer.

agreed.  i personally luv the sport of soccer and the good thing about it at the college level is that its not very expensive to fund...

There's nothing to keep up with. It's all social media speculation, not real life dude.

I would love to see VSU and Fayetteville State make the move to the MEAC. They both have solid enrollment and athletic programs. I would venture to say that the Broncos have had the most consistent HBCU athletic program in North Carolina for the last 20 years.

VSU looks ready but FSU idk. Maybe after 5 years of NC Promise to help boost it's enrollment and graduates

It sounds like new membership for the MEAC.  How many HBCUs DII schools have soccer???

This is great for VSU....but the MEAC doesn't have soccer, or Men's/Women's lacrosse. Guess they will have to do like Howard and a couple others and have those teams play in other leagues for the sports the MEAC doesn't sponsor.

Good to see VSU investing in it's programs.

What makes yall think VSU is adding these sports programs for a possible move to the MEAC, especially when you consider that the MEAC as a whole does not offer soccer or men's women's lacrosse? They might have some other conference in their crosshairs,,,,,,,,
Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Why add sports black kids don't play. We are already struggling to fund revenue generating sports so why not use that money to support full scholarship allowance for football and basketball? Our desire to be like white schools is amazing to me. I really think that most of us don't understand why HBCUs exist and why they are needed to meet OUR needs.

Why do you think they would go to Division one Conference that they have no history or relationship with as a start up fcs?

There is a population of Black kids that are into these sports.  Private high school grads, upper middle class

Their new chancellor is a young, aggressive NCCU alum with lofty goals. I must admit they have increased their academic profile over the last 20 years, their enrollment is near 7,000 and their athletics have been the most consistent among NC HBCUs. MEAC schools are also closer in proximity to FSU from Delaware to Orangeburg.

Btw, I find it interesting that NC A&T has played every NC HBCU in football multiple times in the last 20 years except FSU. The Broncos haven't played you guys since 1998, pre-Kenny Phillips.

It goes back further than that...back when I was a student (Mid 90s) the D2s that were staples on the schedule were WSSU and NCCU...a few others might sneak on the schedule but that was it, usually old CIAA foes. As we headed into the 2000s...the MEAC began to get more concerned with SOS in attempts to get better seeding in the playoffs. The number of D2s a school could play was limited. We still leaned toward NCCU for obvious reasons...and dropped almost everyone else. Then NCCU and WSSU moved up and joined the MEAC...then WSSU dropped back to D2...and we couldn't come to terms with them on a contract. We played Shaw...St Aug...and even JCSU as I recall...but FSU, ESCU, and LC never seem to be on the schedule.

The Rams finally came to their senses...and we were able to sign a two year deal with them, but who knows what the future will hold. It's not uncommon for CAA schools to get multiple bids to the playoffs, so SOS is a concern again. Our OOC schedule will be HBCU heavy...but they will be FCS schools.

Why do you think they would go to Division one Conference that they have no history or relationship with as a start up fcs?

You never know...D1 conferences are positioning themselves for strength, stability, and cost reduction. The same things that make VSU a prize for the MEAC would also make VSU a good add for any conference with a mid eastern footprint. I see them joining the MEAC with their arch rival NSU...but would the admins be open to an offer from a conference like the CAA in their southern division...  ...  then VSU would get a baked in long time rival in a conference game with Hampton, an old CIAA foe in a conference game with NCA&T ...and big instate games against conference foes William & Mary and Richmond.

Then add to that, they can still play their arch rival NSU and any other HBCUs that want to play (NCCU, Howard, Morgan, SCSU) as OOC games.

Plus a conference like the CAA offer all their current sports and the new ones they just added. IJS, VSU is probably weighing all options as they consider this big move.

What you talking about Ram55  At NCA&T our AD has already established the next sport the AGGIES will add is women's soccer...and he would like to add men's as well. During the Alumni meeting when he was discussing adding programs a person asked if he was open to bringing back the women's swim team.

I would love to see a team of ladies like this back in Blue & Gold.

We have a facility for swimming, and had a good team. They were all Black as I recall...But if we had to bring in some non Black players like we have on almost every team we field...so be it.

All those sports are sponsored by the CAA so if we add men/women's soccer, lacrosse, swimming, etc. we have options.
