Hampton could’ve returned to the MEAC.  Travel constraints have been eased, but the lure of white folk ice is colder is powerful to some Black people.
Bruh they're talking about leaving a conference where they couldn't finish any higher than 4th. To join a conference where they probably won't finish any higher than 11th. Please don't anybody come in here trying to defend  this with that lame basketball narrative.

The basketball narrative might be lame,,,,,,,,,,,,,but the CAA is better than the BSC in basketball.
And your point is what exactly? Now all of a sudden Hampton is a power house mid-major?  They will be the doormats of that conference in every sport

The CAA conference continues to get more NCAA Basketball shares to distribute to its members as their teams have advanced past the first round on several occasions. This money and national relevance is what matters.  Hampton will be competitive within the CAA in the same sports that saw success in the MEAC; MBB, WBB and Track. They will be between 3-5th each year in those sports and will have to find a way to build up the remaining sports. Football will be the toughest battle of all.

I doubt it.  President Harvey is leaving.  The next president will be able to make them a contender in football.  They will be in a better position to get an at large bid in football by changing conferences.

What have you seen from Hampton football wise to support this statement? I agree with Bisonblu from a basketball perspective but football will get ugly fast. Hampton wasn’t that competitive in the BS and now you are going against far superior programs every week.

So let me see if I understand you correctly. Your logic is, because they haven't been competitive in any revenue making sports in a conference that has a much lower power ranking. It's a smart move for them to move to a conference that's two times tougher and is nearly four times higher in power ranking. Because they will be able to compete better. Is that about right?

It's about money and academics for Hampton. It has ZERO to do with travel. They have been projecting to move to the CAA for years. So, Harvey is doing what he wanted to do on his way out the door.

that's all...   :tiptoe:

An old man with a large ego us going to destry their athletic legacy.  If he could turn Hampton white, he would.

It's more like they will be the first negroes/HBCU to join an all-White so-called elite athletic conference.  In their minds that is equivalent to Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in major league baseball. We (Black Americans) have always measured our success on being accepted into so-called elite White society.  In some cases, the economics don't add up, but we still make unnecessary and senseless sacrifices to be a part of their so-called elite society. What's really sad, this will probably become a major part of Black History.

I don’t think Harvey wants to turn Hampton white. I do think he believes the CAA is the avenue to improving their basketball fortunes. In my opinion, it takes more than association and rubbing elbows with the “elite.” This is evidenced by the regression of the Hampton women’s basketball team since they entered the Big South.

Yeah, we are the only group of people who celebrate  being the first to be accepted by them. That is a terrible self degrading mindset.

Being that Southern University's campus discharges directly into the Mississippi River via its ravine, I hope the university can obtain major research dollars from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to study how climate change has effected life along the river and what could be done to counter those effects.
