Bill Hayes is upset on WSSU Hiring for Football
« on: December 21, 2021, 04:00:23 AM »
Word around WSSU is that many Alumni are upset with Robert Massey Hiring.  Now it’s been mentioned that the Legendary Bill Hayes is totally upset with Robinson and Thomas Leadership at WSSU.  Many WSSU Alumni has expressed total unhappiness with the directions of the program.  Just maybe Bill Hayes will have his Fame Name remove from the field.

That's ghetto as hell if true. All this leaking gossip about who isn't happy isn't helping the program. Just get behind the hire and support the kids. Hell I'm not particularly happy with our hire either,  and I'm more then sure that if someone else would have been chosen. Pete Richardson wouldn't be talking about removing his name off the field. Smh...bf.

Doesn't sound like something he  would say, but since you say he said it ,was it written or verbalized too you or  who told you?    Regular "I heard" gossip from the usual suspects.    :snicker :snicker :snicker   Why not throw in The BOG in Chapel Hill in this name drop. I heard, somebody said, rumored that, confidential source, all acidulous enough to be sued when coming only from one poster.   Be careful of what you say.  How can anyone be envious of one securing a position paying the going rate for coaches 27 years ago.   Dud you know MASSEY  was paid an assistant coach rate of pay.  Bill Hayes would know better than criticize a coach hired lacking minimus  of coaches and scholarships.  Maynor didn't completely walk on water, but inherited your push back from D1 and players Blount requited during that anticipated move up.  He had to keep it in the road and he was successful in that endeavor. Great coach., but they were loaded when he grabbed the reins coaching WSSU to heights not duplicated in the league until Bowie recent rise. Blue Dog, I don't think its that Ghetto with the school but the interloping poster just pretending to be all knowing of ...................

Bill Hayes could possibly be unhappy with this move. A lot of people are mad. I don't think Bill Hayes would publicly make comments like what's been rumored. The decision has been made so we just need to support it regardless. Our record is not what I would have asked for, but we are not that bad of a team. With a little more talent we would have been contenders in the CIAA. I'm willing to give this man a chance to see if things change. Also, we are basically getting what we are paying for. We need to put more money in the program of shut the fuccccckkk up.

Serious questions 55, recent troubles aside...why do you think ram fans and alumni aren't backing the program with their $$$. My years ago I was at an Alumni meeting during the dark times of 0 and forever at A&T. Someone mentioned not supporting the program until we fixed that mess...and older female alum spoke up and said " I was here before the coaches and the chancellor, and I'll be here when they gone."

This is not a WSSU situation only. The only difference between WSSU and many other HBCUs seems to be this: previous WSSU Presidents have disallowed the transferal of funds from academic programs to athletics. I'm not saying A&T does this but it was and still is very common place for Deans/Presidents at some HBCUs and PWIs to take funding from academic and student programs and give to athletics to make up fiscal shortfalls which they have every single year. Now what many didn't understand was why Elwood Robinson got rid of former AD Tonya Walker for supposedly not raising funds for athletics, when she was very visible in the Winston community and very engaged with alumni groups. But just so we are clear: The majority of College athletic programs (DI, DI-AA or DII) do not profit or make any money!  :read:

A&T AGGIE 96 - I called A&T out, and now I am calling my Rams out. I call it like I see it. Most Rams I no act like we earned our success a few years ago by simply being WSSU. We actually had the perfect storm for our winning. A storm that's past over now. We didn't have a great program, but a decent coach, a great AD, and a president that was willing to pay for anything to take the pressure of us moving back to DII off him. We owned the CIAA because we out spent everybody and we had Bill Hayes. Now Hayes is gone and we are broke. Games with our rivals (A&T and NCCU) gave us the capital to be great. Those games are long gone and so has our revenue. That why I was so vocal about playing those two teams in Winston-Salem. It was easy money that we no longer got. Our alumni can not make up the difference of not playing A&T at home. So here we are, broke and wanting to act like we are still the same.

So you are saying WSSU would sue the poster hbcu for his comments??? If that is the case, we Black folks have some serious issues.

So 55 and wssuguy...what are you rams gonna do about it? Everybody knows college sports is a money pit. Very few at the highest levels make any money...most lose money, transfer funds from academics, etc.

These are known facts...but it's also a known fact that your sports program is often times the main marketing arm for a school. You can make moves to reduce costs, but seems like WSSU admins are gonna have to learn to play the same game most other colleges across the country are playing...particularly if they have football programs.

I don't know ram business...perhaps you guys are right and this is a leadership issue.

This will pass. We will be great again and then sorry again. That's how the game goes. We will rob Peter to pay Paul, and for the short term this will work. Every HBCU robs one program to support another. We will do the same in time.

This is it right here, except I won't say that we can't make it up. We'll see how folks roll after calming down, and thinking more rationally.

One more time "Thinking," when we stayed D2 we had to get rid of most of those players you mention. Only 4 of note stayed after the decision.  Y'all got a few of them, and so did A&T.  Don't forget even if it were true, they were 1-10 before returning to the CIAA.  Most of those D-1 players transferred IN to WSSU in 10 and 11. Guy asked about the AD after Hayes. She was part of the decline.
