Onnidan what is your take on gender pronouns?
« on: September 16, 2021, 12:56:08 PM »
Gender pronouns have really exploded. You see it in social media, academia and in business email signatures.

example.

Joe Public  , Attorney at law
he/him

Some of it is straightforward, some is really complicated in they identify as fluid or non binary.

Any thoughts?

So far, I've only seen it in writing from people with foreign names, which I think is a good thing.   I think it's also good for people with male/female names (Ashley, Leslie, etc.) so they are properly addressed in writing.

Hey, if you tell me how you want to be addressed,  I'll abide - especially if I don't know you.

Never really paid much attention to it. Gender wasn’t broken before…yet now we trying to change it.

Never had any problems with gender and how I address people. It seems pretty straightforward to me.

Teeny was explaining this to me last week. At his school, they have been told to refer to those who call themselves non-binary by pronouns only. I don't get it but whatever...

I agree. I had a former colleague whose name is Leslie, and I have a niece whose name is Leslie.

Good for them that there is a pivot to use gender-inclusive language and identifiers.

I've seen that throughout my coworkers profile. My creative manager has that on her LinkedIn profile. I'm surprised to see it more at my corporate job since we work within the military.

that's all...

I try to address people 1. by the name they want to be called. 2. I avoid gendered honorifics (Mr. or Ms.) unless they want to be called that 3. I try to use gender neutral pronouns at all times because you never know. I tend to use they/them mostly.

Most today are doing it as it’s popular and trendy. For those who identify, it’s way deeper than what’s on the surface. I don’t broadcast mine but do respect those who choose to use them.
