California Gov. Gavin Newsom beats back GOP-led recall

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday emphatically defeated a recall aimed at kicking him out of office early, a contest the Democrat framed as part of a national battle for his party’s values in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and continued threats from “Trumpism.”

Newsom bolted to a quick victory boosted by healthy turnout in the overwhelmingly Democratic state. He cast it as a win for science, women’s rights and other liberal issues, and it ensures the nation’s most populous state will remain in Democratic control as a laboratory for progressive policies.

“‘No’ is not the only thing that was expressed tonight,” Newsom said. “I want to focus on what we said ‘yes’ to as a state: We said yes to science, we said yes to vaccines, we said yes to ending this pandemic.”

With about 60% of ballots counted, “no” on the question of whether to recall Newsom was ahead by a 2-to-1 margin. That lead was built on votes cast by mail and in advance of Tuesday’s in-person balloting, with a strong showing by Democrats. While likely to shrink somewhat in the days ahead as votes cast at polling places are counted, Newsom’s lead couldn’t be overcome.

Elder will be back.  Republicans do not or rarely care about credibility, hyprocrisy or how they look.  They are power hungry and care about power first and foremost.  Elder may not run for governor but will be back in one way or another on the national scence.

…..bruh, I understand what you’re saying here, but I honestly think Larry has now been exposed as a complete and utter fraud and joke.

It’s one thing to spew all of his self-hating bashing of black folks over the broadcast radio waves, much to the never ending delight of bigots/white supremacists. But Larry mistakenly believed he could parley his “koonery” into being the blackface to take down a VERY skilled political operator like Gavin Newsome.

I suspect now many of the white folks who have funded and supported Larry’s foolishness over the years will now divert their dollars and attention to some other nucca koon. Larry has now been exposed as a stupid loser, and I won’t be surprised if Newsome privately unleashes some of his political operatives to further diminish Larry.

The age-led maxim applies here: If you’re gonna take down the “king,” you damn well better be successful, or YOU will be the one going down.
