NC Central’s athletic director is stepping down
« on: August 26, 2021, 05:58:30 PM »
After leading North Carolina Central to new heights during its transition to Division I, Eagles’ athletic director Ingrid Wicker-McCree is moving on.

The announced Thursday that Wicker-McCree, who took over as AD in 2008, is stepping down.

“We commend Dr. Wicker-McCree for her 13 years of service and leadership of NCCU’s Department of Athletics,” Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye said in a statement. “She was instrumental in the transition of our Athletics Program from Division II to Division I. Ingrid will be missed and her accomplishments are greatly appreciated by our faculty, staff, coaches, student-athletes and alumni. We wish her well as she starts the next phase of her personal and professional journey.”

Hey you birds see this coming? Any concerns, or just wanted to move on?

Yes, we talked about a possible replacement in another thread.  I wonder if she is taking the MEAC job.  Best wishes Dr. McCree!   This was a great ride.

Saw it coming.  Was mentioned in another thread as indicated.  The thread talked about who and why.  It appears to have been taken down.  Must have hit a nerve.

Something doesn’t seem right. Seems like this was sudden.  I’ll talk to some of my folks on campus.

It seems like she may have another job opportunity.  She will finish this school year.

If she is the front runner for the MEAC job, our conferenced will surely have nailed its coffin closed.   NCCU folk, being polite, did not renewing the contract. Here is hoping he has list of strong administrative  FUND RAISING business types who have had success elsewhere, building a team AND staff of professionals that have secured outside funds to enhance the program.  When fund raising was mentioned the conversations always ended with we need more students and increase in ticket prices but wouldn't lift a finger in pursuit of third party funds.  Our footprint in RTP of NC  an area replete with Fortune 500 companies.   Mr Aggie Professor, who started the post would not care if we successfully had any program or conference.   You all left.

From the outside looking in , it looks as if she was doing a good job. Winning in Football, Basketball and a good social media imprint. But if your not happy with your AD , so be it.

It's been explained over and over why we left. Has nothing to do with NCCU

Again , from the outside looking like she was doing well. It was nothing negative about my post

If she's the frontrunner for MEAC commish then I doubt she'd stay on at nccu till spring 2022.

Eagle fans mostly support Dr. McCree.

We do need more students; no lie told there.  It's essential to the academic, athletic and auxillary enterprise.

Is the Assoc. AD in charge of development/resource acquisitions stepping down too?  Isn't it his job to raise funds?

For the Eagle fans applauding this decision/announcement; be careful what you wish for.  Her tenure was a value-add to the university, not a detractor. Also, nothing occurs in a vacuum.
