Danley spoke last week to the trustee board’s Ad Hoc Athletic Committee, asking for $239,000 for additional scholarships; $485,000 for additional personnel; and $276,000 to help the department fulfill its obligations under Title IX.

“We sponsor 14 sports. That’s 174 scholarships if we were fully funded. We’re at about 122. So that’s a big difference for us,” Danley said.

Several basic coaching positions remain unfilled.

“We do not have full-time coaches for a number of our non-revenue sports and administrative positions, specifically in the business administration. We don’t have anyone there, and we are missing some of the basic revenue-generating positions, whether that’s marketing, sales, things of that nature, as well as a staff operation of basic revenue-generating activities,” Danley said.

The university also has to address Title IX, he said. Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs receiving federal financial assistance.

“We had a number of areas where we were noncompliant that we must address immediately. And then the institution’s inability to fund essential athletic facility projects has been problematic as well,” he said.

scsu will likely represent the meac at the celebration bowl, they should be favored to win the meac football championship this season.  and if so, that celebration bowl "payout" will help scsu a great deal...

You better hope not. Dropping 80 points on Miles every year won't be so amusing.

OSA,

hat road to the CB won't be easy. DSU is vastly improved and Odums is at NSU with a team that looks great on paper.

Love that modesty. Imma have to check out DSU again on ESPN Plus. Didn't think they looked that good this Spring. SCSU has a tough road tho. Clemson , New Mexico State , AAMU, A&T , FAMU, and BCU.

Well Almighty y'all won't be the first to drop 80 on us. So we welcome the Challenge. And after that Reduction in Scholarships set in for D2 Level you will be lucky if you can beat Lane College. And know that We are not the Old Miles as you can see. So if you do beat us it won't be by 80 points it would be less than that. But eventually we'll get you ask Tuskegee,Albany State, and Fort Valley State the so call Big 3 of the SIAC. They are not the Big Three anymore. Now they are bowing at our feet and so will State if they get on our Prey List.

I don't think SCSU is going anywhere but that drop in funding is an issue and a big flag

SCSU's ability to remain competitive is nothing short of a miracle; especially considering their low student athletic fee.  Coupled with their low enrollment relative to other public MEAC schools, it's clear that they are squeezing blood out of proverbial turnips.

That drop in funding was done in 2015-2016.  SCSU is not dropping to D2.  Many alumni wanted that after 2015 because other priorities took precedence over athletics.  However, a feasibility study was done and it was determined that SCSU should stay D1 and in the MEAC.  Slowly but surely the school will return to normal.
