It's disgusting.' UNC-Chapel Hill students raise concern over appointment of interim police chief

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The fallout continues at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with the university's recent selection of an interim police chief.

On Tuesday, UNC-Chapel Hill announced the resignation of Chief David Perry, and that Assistant Chief Rahsheem Holland, who has worked at the university for 20 years, would be temporarily taking over the department.

Holland has been the interim chief since May, when Perry went out on medical leave after a procedure.

But, Holland's actions caught on video last week have UNC-Chapel Hill's Black Student Movement calling for the veteran officer's termination. Holland was seen on video pushing students and allegedly punching Julia Clark, a student protestor, who later posted a picture of her bruised face on Twitter.

 ........that yard is toxic on so many levels. If I’m the parent or family friend of a black student set to enroll next fall as a freshman, I would be counseling that potential black freshman about considering other options.

Campus police are in place to protect students. The campus belongs to them when they enroll, you can't put your hands on them.

Compared to other state schools in the south, perhaps. They are certainly not an Ol Miss, or Bama.  But here in NC, they are the most conservative among the big state schools.

I would venture to say UNC is the most liberal among the large schools in NC. Duke is very conservative. One of my clients was a Black professor there and she couldn't wait to get out of that "racist culture".

When I heard the news earlier this year that the Board of Trustees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill had denied Nikole Hannah-Jones tenure, I was not at all surprised, because for the past 11 years I have researched and written about the racial history of the university.

Founded in 1793, the University of North Carolina, the nation's oldest public university, has a national reputation for being a beacon of progressiveness in the South. Indeed the university's founding and guiding principles are light and liberty. However, the university has a dark history. One that is steeped in bondage, white supremacy, racial inequality and the oppression of Black people on its campus, in the town of Chapel Hill, and throughout the state of North Carolina. The university promoted slavery, Jim Crow segregation, white supremacy campaigns, and committed a multitude of other horrific injustices against Black people. And this legacy is not just the past. The past is operating in the present. Yet institutionalized racism is denied and even concealed by the university.

......yeah, I agree with you.  Given ALL of the controversy regarding Ms. Hannah-Jones, and the way they really tried to HUMILIATE this brilliant sistah, negroes will STILL flock to Chapel Hill.  One would have to be terribly naive to believe otherwise.

But that is NOT the point set forth in my first post^^^.  I'm just hoping that for black kids accepted there and expected to enroll this fall, someone will just inform them of the political/social climate there so they will be under NO illusion when they enroll. Now the negro athletes will be fine, so long as they do nothing but stand at rock-solid attention when the National Anthem is played with the racist lyrics and all.

But as for the rest of the negro student body there...............well, God bless 'em.
