2014 3-9

They haven't been good in football for years.

They played in the Championship game in the Big South Basketball Tournament.

That's not a pattern, they've just had one full season. Besides i wouldn't say that they haven't been good for some years base on those records alone.

Maybe they don't want to associate with other HBCUs.  Watch some others are going to disappear as well.

I don't believe that at all or they wouldn't be scheduling their former CIAA foes. People said [and continue to say] the same thing about Tennessee State. I think Harvey just wanted to do something different with the Pirates. I hate that they and others left the MEAC but things change, I guess.

How does this statement connect with the original question?

Hampton played us in 2018 and we were scheduled to play them again in 2020 but the game was changed at the last minute and they replaced us with VUU who they have played recently also.

IMO they do it for one and only one reason. To keep their numbers up. If they had decent attendance numbers.  I'm completely convinced that they would just be fine without scheduling any. You don't throw away decades of relationships because you want to be associated with someone. That's just my humble opinion.

Anyhoo....back on topic.

BLUEDOG, I agree with you 110%  because that is exactly what Tennessee State has done, at least in terms of football. All those rivalries with the SWAC and FAMU are basically a thing of the past except for the continued series with Jackson State.

If Hampton is smart, they will AT LEAST keep Norfolk State on their schedule. A rivalry that is literally a few minutes drive across the Bay? Even if you're in a new conference, I'd let them know THIS GAME IS A MUST.

Hampton has a 4 year home and home deal with Norfolk State.
Hampton has a 2 year home and home deal with Howard.
Hampton has a 2 year home and home deal with Virginia Union

They have their rivalries intact

Hampton going to Union?  Is this an indication that maybe the MEAC is the better fit for HU?
