Coach Bill Hayes took kids from small communities from all over North Carolina and developed young men.

He was a fierce and talkative Coach on the sidelines.  He made some great successes in many player lives.  God Bless You Coach Hayes.

It would have been nice if NCCU was included. With Bill, all three schools was joined at the waist.

Good point, Ram55!  Here's my true story about Bill Hayes.  First, he used to throw rocks at my auntie when he was a kid in Durham.  So my freshman year at Morehouse, on a  Saturday in April of 1978, I went with my boys to grab some late-night snacks up at the west end mall.  (okay, we made a wine run  :snicker) I'm in line with a bottle of MD2020, and I looked and Bill was in front of me.  He was on a recruitment trip to Alabama.  I identified myself as a fellow North Carolinian...and told him I was from Winston-Salem. Bill had chips and a drink in his hand, and when he rolled out the door, he looked back and said, "don't let that dog bite ya!"  :lmao:

He was talking about that "Mad Dog, 2020." ;D
