Nearly a century after the city of Manhattan Beach, CA used a legal tool to take land away from Black property owners, an area known as Bruce’s Beach. Los Angeles County, which currently owns some of that land, tells us it is looking at returning it to the descendants of the Bruce family.

This Manhattan Beach land could return to the Black family that owned it
Backers of the proposal introduced by state Sen. Steven Bradford say it is the first step toward correcting a historic injustice when the city seized the resort of Charles and Willa Bruce and forced Black beachgoers out of town 100 years ago.
