Biden Proposes Free Tuition To HBCUs
« on: August 01, 2020, 02:26:36 PM »
Former Vice President Joe Biden wants to build America back better than ever and in order to do so, he is focusing his efforts on closing the equity gap that persists throughout America. On Tuesday, as part of his “Build Back Better” plan, the Biden campaign released an economic proposal aimed at achieving racial equity for communities of color. Included in the wide-reaching plan was a necessary provision for HBCUs.

........yeah, Joe has GOT to get these black millenials fired up because right now they most assuredly are NOT. Ms. Strike and her companion are profoundly UNINSPIRED by Joe’s candidacy. They consider him a relic from the 1980’s. And, sadly, In too many ways they are correct.

I hope Joe doesn’t misfire on this impending VP announcement. He simply can NOT phuck this up.  :(

I'd vote for Methuselah before I would trump...
If capitalism is so great, why does it need to be bailed out by socialism every ten years?

I don’t get these folk. They really don’t understand what’s happening.

Trump is a buffoon, but some of the people behind him are as dangerous, even more so.

We don’t have the luxury of blending in, and I already know many can’t even handle short term discomfort much less pain (wearing masks, keep a distance).

???......is there a consensus here that black millennials disenchantment is irrelevant, and there is no
need to engage them before the upcoming election?

Or is the support of black baby boomers enough to carry Joe over the finish line?

A considered, informed and reasoned response would be appreciated instead of “groupthink”. Sorry, but that simply doesn’t advance the discussion.

We give him a lot of grief ,but Neymar has warned this board. Many Black millennials feel that voting Dem has not really moved us forward .They don't see nuance. Also look what they've lived thru? 911, the financial crisis in 08 and this. But we expect them saddled with debt and few job prospects to vote for another  corporate Dem.Thats why Bernie and AOC are popular with that demographic.

They're sick of being lectured by our generation who only give advice but no $$.

....Bison^^^thanks for responding to my call to “advance the discussion”^^^^.

When responding to these millennials, it is a waste of time to “relitigate” the Dem nomination process. While Joe has not officially captured the nomination, he WILL BE the nominee in a few weeks. Joe can neither change his record nor his demeanor at this point, even if he TRIED to do so. His tendency at the unforced gaffe is well documented. And, potentially, could be VERY damaging at this point. Everytime he does an “off the cuff” interview with a gaggle of reporters, I hold my breath.

That’s why his choice of a runningmate will be EXTREMELY important. That person simply MUST be someone who will engage the younger demographic. I keep hearing this talk about Joe selecting someone with whom he is “comfortable”.

Phuck that!!!  >:(

Select someone who will advance this party and engage the party’s traditional and loyal constituencies. And that includes the so-called “working class whites” who now realize that Trump’s appeal to their racial angst was complete bullshyt. And that group hasn’t gotten SHYT out of Trump’s disastrous presidency.

With respect to his runningmate selection - Go Big and go Bold!!  Sen. Duckworth of Illinois is looking better and better to this negro grandfather’s eyes.

But Bernie is a millionaire _ in 2016 he was railing against the millionaires- now that he is a millionaire he is railing against the billionaires

While I understand that there are knocks against Biden, e.g., the 1994 crime bill, verbal gaffes, his age, in my most humble opinion, those those flaws are substantially outweighed by the fact that he served as vice-president for the first African-American President. If he chooses an African-American running mate, he would be putting another Black person in a favorable position to become President.

If he chooses an African-American running mate, Black people of all ages need to come out in droves to vote for him in November.

I've been leaning toward Duckworth as well. She checks alot of boxes, plus will have traction to the military.
HBCU's especially at the state level need to be fully funded.

They do not like the republicans at all but do not like the incremental change that a lot of establishment or corporate democrats give.

While many of them rail against a Bill Clinton, a founding member of the DLC, they should look at what Reagan did.  The Reagan years fundamentally changed the economic and political paradigm from an FDR one to a Reagan one.  (Look at the cost of higher education.)  While Clinton raised modestly taxes on the rich, we are still in a Reagan economic paradigm.  While some call for the repeal of the Bush and Trump tax cuts, others are calling for the repeal of the Reagan tax cuts on the rich.

Supply side/trickle down economic proposed by Reagan is a scam.  It is snake oil.  Thom Hartmann often rails against Reagan on his show (column/video, another column).
