MEAC Lost $1.8 Million Between 2017-18
« on: June 29, 2020, 10:54:12 PM »
For 11 institutions, that math equals to about $174,767 per year per school over the last 18 years. According to the MEAC’s most recent available tax filing, the conference’s total revenue dropped by more than $1.8 million between 2017 and 2018, while total revenue for the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the new home of Florida A&M University and Bethune-Cookman University, increased revenues by more than $1.7 million over the same period.

This article talking about old dates are just misleading.  Let's just sit back and not post anymore about the woes of the MEAC.  I mean, what's the point?

Dude that's just two years ago. Do you understand what a $1.8 million lost does.

Interesting.

I'm wonder how to balance this with Dr. Thomas' comments at the Press Conference that the MEAC is the only FCS conference to make a dispersement to it's members for the last 18 years.

When dealing with HBCU Digest, believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Maybe he meant making a dispersement while in the red.

On top of that the title is misleading, if not outright a lie.  The MEAC didn't lose revenue; it increased expenses. Revenue actually went up.

Interesting; Big South, MEAC, SWAC and OVC 2017 returns. Before anybody ask, those are the only ones I could find on all of them that were recent.

You are correct, but why did the expenses increase by so much while the revenue basically stayed the same???  MEAC's revenue only increased by $183,795 while its expenses increased by $2,081,208, which resulted in a net loss of $1,897,413 between the two years.  This reminds me of a fraternity chapter I once was a member of in Lynchburg, VA.  They would spend $2,000 to have a fundraiser to only raise $1,500.  It really didn't make any sense to have a fundraiser with a net loss of $500. The title of the article should have been net losses instead of revenue when comparing 2017 to 2018.

Just from observation of these tax filings, a 10-year picture would give a better understanding of what's going on.
