A Baton Rouge Story: 1953 Baton Rouge Bus Boycott
« on: January 17, 2020, 09:56:40 PM »
Baton Rouge is a city filled with a lot of history dating back to centuries.

When you hear “bus boycott” during the civil rights movement; most people think of the boycott in Montgomery back in 1955. However, before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr; there was Reverend TJ Jemison and many others during the Baton Rouge bus boycott in 1953.

I knew Baton Rouge had the first bus boycott.  Rev. Jemison was a chartered member of the SCLC.

I know more about Montgomery than the Baton Rouge Bus Boycott though I lived in Baton Rouge.  What many may not know is that the first in the nation's history was in New York City and was led by Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. (link).

Thanks to all for the refresher.  This is important history.

If no one objects, I will cross-post this info in another thread for ease of reference.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.
