Black millennials aren’t leaving the church because we are too driven in our respective careers, we’re leaving because our faith is broadening. And we’re resonating with the traditional spiritual beliefs of our ancestors.

Jaimac, VERY interesting, indeed!
As I always say, to each his/her own.....but, its not just millenials. I've seen many in my age group leave the church for other alternatives....

Has the Black church ignored this? Does the Black church need to make any changes that would make these millenials want to revist or stay?  Should the Black church just continue on as they have been? Some would say those who want it will seek it out; those who don't will seek...something else.

VERY TIMELY AND EXTREMELY INTERESTING. JUST THIS PAST SUNDAY MY PASTOR BRIEFLY ADDRESSED THIS TOPIC FROM THE PULPIT.  IT JUST HAPPENED THAT THE WOMEN OF ZETA PHI BETA ARE CELEBRATING THEIR 100TH ANNIVERSERY AND ABOUT 50 OF THEM ALONG WITH AN EQUAL NUMBER OF THEIR BROTHERS FROM PHI BETA SIGMA, ATTENDED OUR MORNING SERVICE. THEY WERE FROM ALABAMA A&M (AAMU) WHICH IS LOCATED LESS THAN 3 MILES FROM MY CHURCH. (MY PASTOR IS A SIGMA, AAMU GRAD AND PAST VICE-PRESIDENT OF AAMU).  I AM GOING TO FORWARD THIS ARTICLE TO HIM AND SEE WHAT HIS RESPONSE IS.

I FAILED TO NOTE THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE SORORIETY AND FRATERNITY MEMBERS WHO ATTENDED WHILE RESPLENDENT IN THEIR ROYAL BLUE AND WHITE WERE ALUMNI MEMBERS IN THE 40-60 RANGE AGE GROUP.  NOT THAT MANY UNDERGRADS.

I think its part of it.

The article was all over the place. Is the cause homophobia, lack of African religious practices or something else?
I think the cause is deeper. I think that younger Black women don't care for the male  power structure within the church.
Also the sweeping under the rug of the preachers sexual exploits is a main cause as well.
There are at least in th DMV churches with LBGTQ friendly churches that seem to be thriving. Many have female  pastors or priests as the spiritual leader. The Black Baptist church is bleeding members under the age of thirty.

Let's be honest. The church isn't skipping these kids. They just wanna do wrong and want folks to justify it. Today's young adults want you to tell them it's a good thing to have kids out of wedlock. They want you to say being gay isn't different. They want you to say having threesome and open marriages are great. Look we all sin and fall short, but we know what's right and wrong. Folks have been hypocrites since the beginning of times. If we went by what big momma and paw paw did we'd all still be messed up.

The church/religion has to evolve, -which some have done so. Humanity is always evolving, and if our institutions fail to evolve, they will fail.

One of our biggest issues as African Americans is the fact we resist change in every aspect of our existence.

there is no "The Black Church". Every congregation is different and unique and do not fit into anybody's stereotype.
Having said that each congregation must celebrate its own uniqueness and stop trying to act like folks on TV.

So the black church must teach against morals and values because folks wanna be sinners?

What is right, what is wrong is all subjective. Just because you were taught a certain way does not mean it is acceptable to someone else. The church once had certain views about black people, thank God we moved beyond that.  People often follow the direction of leadership. This is what you see with Trump supporters. If Trumps says air, it must be right.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.

As a result we are coming to you directly for your financial support>
