If we don't have a solution, keep your opinions to yourself. Every opinion is not valid. This article adds nothing to the discussion of HBCUs.
The article adds nothing that helps Bennett at this point in time but it provides a solid roadmap for other institutions in this same situation. My opinion is based on my experience with Shaw. Years ago when we were in the exact same situation Bennett finds itself in today, our board chair, Willie Gary, selected a persident with the skills mentioned in the article.
We owed Department of Education millions, and were in terrible financial shape heading into accreditation renewal. Dr. Yancey used her connections with the Department of Education of restructure our debt. She also used her past association with SACS to get us through the accreditation process.
The author may have been correct to say that Dawkins did not have the expertise to get Bennett through the accreditation process, and that the new president has no experience with the Department of Education. These skillsets are invaluable to a college.
Honestly, there is no way Bennett should have been rejected after raising 9 million dollars.
