Most Dominant Program in HBCU Sports
« on: July 17, 2019, 07:51:37 AM »
Just wanted to see what the thoughts were out there on these as well as any other programs that have quietly dominated their opponents of late.

Did you mean to have NCCU basketball twice?

Also, not sure of your criteria but I would think VUU's Women basketball needs to be on this list.  In just the last 4 seasons they are: 3x CIAA Champs; 2x NCAA Atlantic Region Champs; 2016-2017 National Runner Up; and have made the D2 national tournament the past 4 seasons.  Plus there record over the past 4 seasons is 112-14.

Also, you may think about adding Lincoln Mo's women track team.  In the past 5 seasons they have won the Nation Championship twice and were runners up once in outdoor track, and they won one indoor national championship during that time as well.

I’ve edited to reflect. This are very good additions. It seems that each of these programs are worth a look.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.  In a 5 year period Benedict College WBB won 81 % of their games while VUU won 76%.  However since VUU played in a championship game does that makes them more dominant in your eyes????

I would include Alabama State women's track & field program.  That's if you allow SWAC schools in this poll.

St Aug track has won national titles. That stands for something.

I agree. They are by far the greatest HBCU sports program in the last five years and also of "all time". They eat National Championships like I eat popcorn. This poll has got to be for runners-up!

That's a fair enough question, but I would think National and Regional success would tip the scale in VUU's favor.  Also, the fact that VUU and Benedict played twice during that stretch and VUU won both meetings 97-52 and 81-50 shows that VUU was the more dominate between the two.

Then what you are looking for is agreement with your choices because your poll did not indicate what you are saying now.

This isn't my poll.  I was just responding to why VUU would be considered more dominant then Benedict.

I think this just goes to show that success is a bit different at every school, conference or division. I’m sure there are many other teams at Xavier, Langston, Bama State, etc that could make a claim but what is success to you?

Obviously, St Augs program has been amazing for such a long time and when Coach Williams is gone the athletic department may fizzle as well. As the head coach and athletic director he’s done an amazing job.

NCAT Football and HU Volleyball both have a stranglehold on the MEAC right now and I don’t see either changing anytime soon.
