Rude welcome for Tigers in SIAC preseason poll
« on: July 09, 2019, 09:29:48 PM »
Savannah State’s return season to the SIAC is not expected to be very successful, according to the league’s coaches and sports information directors.

Not only was Savannah State predicted to place 6th, the Tigers also have no players selected to the Preseason All-SIAC First or Second Teams.
“We’re not picked very well or any of that stuff. Great!” laughs head coach Shawn Quinn. "I’m just glad they’re going to let us line up and hopefully they’ll let us have 11 and maybe even wear helmets.”

Pre-season All Conference selections are stats from the previous SIAC Football Season. Savannah State is just returning so we can't count what they did in the MEAC in 2018 to determined them to be on the SIAC Pre-Season All Conference teams this year. Now this time next year they will have some players on the SIAC All-Conference teams. But right now just get in where you fit in until nextyear. I didn't expect them to be on any SIAC Pre-season selection list anyway.

The Tigers will rely on their defense this year.
The offense is still finding its way

What y’all  smoking????? So because they were in the MEAC they gonna run through the SIAC  :lmao: They might and I stress might be competitive but I doubt if they win. Some of y’all may remember a better MEAC team had their hands full with Skegee and FVSU. Then you have ASU,  the MCs and BC which is on the come up.  If they were as well coached as y’all say they would have won at least 4 games in a season.  :tiptoe:

This prediction is lazy. SSU isn't as bad as their record indicates. Take away the FBS outliers, and the Tigers D gave up a respectable 20.5 PPG.    In theory, the offense should improve as they will face less talented defenders.

I don't think they'll win the SIAC; but they definitely won't finish last in their division.  I'm willing to AVI bet someone on that.

Do you actually think SSU is gonna come in 6th place in the East?  :snicker

No I don't but as it was explained they have no SIAC stats to use in a prediction and their MEAC record does not warrant a high preseason rating. But a preseason rating ain't worth the paper its written on.  It amuses me that MEAC folks think that just because they were in the MEAC they will run through the SIAC.  I could understand if this was A&T or a few others but SSU. :nono2:

not having Raeburn may change things but if he was there you pick them higher. They did lose some playmakers to other meac schools
