What kind of threads are being penalized?
« on: July 07, 2019, 12:00:27 PM »
"We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it."

I would be curious to see what kind of threads were being penalized.

Some folk here probably need tone down the politically charged name calling, and the trashing of white people. We have to mindful of the fact that others read what we post.

White people may not be "God" per say, but if they are funding the site then they certainly are close to it on here.

I'd say most black websites usually come down to this. White advertisers control the revenue, so the sites have to play ball.

Same thing happened to Afrochat and Iseecolor/Mingle city. You have to bend the knee to your advertisers because they keep the lights on.

I am just curious to what exactly set it off. Obama was talked about like a dog on here as long as I have been on here with no issue. Im guessing its the hardness on Trump,GOP, McCain(I take full responsibility for this), and the white moderate that is causing the issue.

I knew that day the site was down for hours that it was a money issue. When the money is flowing right an outage of hours dont happen.

Im guessing the politics board is probably on the chopping block. Advertisers in general dont want to associate with politics as it is so divisive now

Sometimes we have to look beyond our feelings and consider how our actions affects others. OW mentioned that some of us are causing the site to be penalized.

I've been saying that it is high time that the politics board has to go!!

Just leave it to sports only. It will be busy from August to May then have a lull, but you know what? It would definitely burn off a lot of the toxic people who ONLY post on the politics board.

I say go back to the root and essence of the site, HBCU sports. Maybe replace the politics with HBCU academia, maybe get rid of the General Board and replace it with HBCU bands, and keep it right there.

Then that way, we don't have to worry about hurting the poor widdle feelings of folks who don't like black folks telling the freakin' truth. Shoot, if we just talk HBCU sports, band and academia, 90 percent of the European folks who snoop on us would roll out and not worry about anything.

 I dang near guarantee that.

I think that is the BEST option on many fronts. How many read this statement way back when OW posted it

In case some of you have forgotten, please go back and read the agreement you signed before registering on this board.  "PERSONAL ATTACKS" will not be tolerated.  Continuous attacks on an individual, including revealing who you think a person is or sending Private Messages with threats and attacks, are grounds for removal from the registration listing.  If you can't be civil, go someplace else. Don't discredit your education by showing your "thug" personality.

Sadly even OW didn't moderate the board to try and tame the language.

I don't feel the site is in a position to narrow the scope of the discussion. Like most discussion boards, it is past it's prime as younger people seek other types of social media.

With that said, what is wrong with us being a little bit more civil and thoughtful in our discussions? There are only a few, who engage in name calling, and announce how much they hate white people. The days of saying what you want in social media are over, and it's time some of us realize this. I visit other boards and none of them allow this. So I can undersand if Onidan is being penalized for allowing it. If you don't believe what I'm saying look no further than Facebook, the bastion of free speech.

How many of us would support a site that allows its members to say negative things about black people? This is the main reason I stopped visiting the D2 football site years ago. Too many of their posters were making derogotory statement about HBCUs. And the things they were saying were mild compared to what read read on Onnidan.

Why do some black people feel they have a special right to trash other groups, but when they do it to us, we are up in arms.  It's a new day, and we are being held accountable for our racism.  As a famous Kitty once said, 'What's good for the Cat,...." ( ::) I can't remember how GK ended that).

With the exception of maybe two posters, most negative commentary about white people is in reaction to something that a white person has said or done.  The comments provide a look into our hidden biases and in sympathetic terms, our pain.  Black people ought to have spaces to vent their frustrations with "life in Black America" and this is one of the few places I've found on the web that provides that space with civility, maturity, and the seriousness needed to have those types of discussions.  Many other places are just millenials mouthing off.  I appreciate the perspectives presented here.

That being said, there is only one poster who regularly uses a racial slur in conversation.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.
