Such a shame. Makes me think of brother Rueben Garnett who we recently awarded a posthumous high diploma to. and renamed a bridge in his honor. He was KIA in Nam while saving multiple lives. His mother had to fight for his medals.

49 years later, apology for racism from American Gold Star Mothers brings healing for Steelton family

My grandfather who just passed this year was a WW II Vet. He had a great story of his treatment in Mississippi after he returned. He was forced to remove his sidearm by a Sheriff while he was on active duty. His commanding officer co- signed.

Hundreds turn out for Harrisburg Senators' Veterans Celebration

The video link no longer works but he gave an interview here where he talked about it and he called Patton a bigot.  :snicker Grand pop told it like it was.

CU^^^evrrything I’ve seen and read suggests that Patton WAS a “bigot,” so your Grand pop is correct.

Btw, sharing this story gives us some insights as to the source of the “fire” that you bring to this board. It seems like your Grandfather was no one to play with.

Btw, perhaps I was watching the wrong news sites/networks on the 75th anniversary of storming the beaches at Normandy, but it seems like the black soldiers’ participation in the D-Day invasion was largely ignored.

I’ve got HUGE respect for the black soldier like CU’s grandfather who went overseas to battle the Nazis Fascism, only to return stateside to suffer abuse/terror from WHITE nationalists and supremacists.  >:(

Strike, he was definitely a treat. The man spoke truth to  power. He was the youngest of ten so I guess he had to fight for his. The last couple years were really interesting. There is nothing like a 94 year old with dementia WW II vet who was also a championship boxer and who still thinks he’s sharp with the hands. Luckily all the young bucks on the corner knew and respected Mr. Dave because he threatened a few of them.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.
