Wonder if anyone has explained to DerDon the effect of a massive sell off of China-held treasury bonds? 🤔

Wonder what their value in the market would be at this point?

Great Observation! China could dump their Treasuries in the market and inflict incredible damage to the debt markets.

If the Fed had to step in to buy them, it would also shrink the money supply, causing inflationary pressure.

I don’t see this as  a viable option for China...inflicting that level of pain would hurt our economy which in turn hurts their economy.

This is a lose lose anyway you look at it, but it’s a fight that should have been fought a long time ago. Hell, if you ask me it’s a damn shame that Trump is the president actually doing something and calling China out on this BS.

In one year Tariffs have rebuilt our Steel Industry - it is booming! We placed a 25% Tariff on “dumped” steel from China & other countries, and we now have a big and growing industry. We had to save Steel for our defense and auto industries, both of which are coming back strong!

Aggie,

You are probably right about self-inflicted wounds for China selling off bonds.

It didn't have to be a lose-lose.  A serious President would not have scuttled the Asia Trade deal and would have worked with those allies as well as EU allies to pressure China into making changes in their intellectual property theft practices, etc.

But based on ignorance, his hatred of ANYthing that Obama did and his over-inflated ego, #ErraticTrump went it alone after shafting US allies.  As usual, he created a crisis so he can pretend - and fool the gullible - that he solved it.  And, of course, he would not want to share the credit for any success with allies.

With all the divisive rhetoric on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, websites such as ours, especially message boards, are under the watchful eye of the Internet giants. And those giants are coming down hard on sites like this one due to the perception of the need for better "oversight".

We recognize the cultural conflict that exists and over the past few months we've been accused of allowing content in posts/threads that supposedly violates some advertiser's policies. Those threads weren’t an issue in the past, but for some reason, they are an issue now. And we are being penalized (financially) because of it.
