Next Game:Kentucky State University
1/14/2019 | 7:30 p.m.

After a slow start, Miles came back to dominate Central State in a 67-48 win Saturday afternoon at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Jeffrey Dockett (14 points, seven assists and five steals) and Nathan Sheffield (13 points, six rebounds) came off the bench to spark the Golden Bears (10-4, 7-0 SIAC West), who remain on top of the Western Division standings.

Central State came out smoking, opening a 19-7 lead less than nine minutes into the game. But a Miles Meredith dunk, followed by a Sheffield 3-pointer had the game tied at 23 with 4:44 left in the first half. The Golden Bears would use an 8-0 run to finish the first half and went into the locker room with a 31-27 lead.

The Marauders tied the game at 36 after a 3-point play by Tom Johnson. But Sheffield and Jelani Watson-Gayle hit consecutive 3-pointers to give Miles the lead for good. A 17-1 run by the Golden Bears put the game away for good. Dockett had a couple of steals that led to fastbreak baskets during the decisive run, Overall, Miles forced 17 turnovers which led to 16 points.

Dreon Lewis scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Central State. Devonte Fuller had 12 points and six rebounds and Watson-Gayle added eight points and six rebounds for Miles, which hosts Kentucky State on Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Bears defeat Central State

Next Game:Kentucky State University
1/14/2019 | 5:30 p.m.

Jasmine Hollis had 19 points and 16 rebounds and Miles dominated on the glass the entire game in a 69-57 win over Central State Saturday afternoon at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (9-2, 5-1) led by just one point to start the second quarter but took control of the contest right before halftime. Je'Keria Strickland (13 points) got hot, making all four of her shots during the quarter, and a 9-2 run over the final two minutes - punctuated by a Strickland putback at the horn - gave Miles a 38-27 lead going into the break.

The lead in the second half rarely dipped below 10 as Miles had multiple opportunities to stay out front. Using a 60-27 advantage on the glass (which included 28 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points), the Lady Bears took 18 more shots from the field. The lead was as large as 14 points in the third quarter and Marauders (5-11, 3-5) never got any closer than seven points in the second half.

Takyra Gilbert (13 points, six assists), Falon Edwards (12 points, four steals) and Jaeda Davis (12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals) paced Central State. Taylor Terry had 10 points and nine rebounds, Raiana Johnson had five points and 12 rebounds, and Victoria Sutton added eight points, seven assists , three rebounds and two steals for Miles, which hosts Kentucky State Monday night at 5:30 p.m.
