won't be the same in baltimore, the atmosphere will be "totally different".  charlotte is a "modern" up and coming city that's still growing.  baltimore is an old "tranditional" northeast city that's not as easy to move around the city as charlotte.  the ciaa tournament gets "top billing" in charlotte or any other north carolina or virginia host city.  not so in baltimore, most folks in baltimore have never heard of the ciaa and there's many other attractions going in baltimore for the ciaa tournament to get top billing.

it'll be a totally different dynamic in baltimore.  clearly there won't be as many folks from north carolina in baltimore as there are in charlotte due to the distance and cost factor associated with baltimore...

CIAA was turning into Freaknik for grownups with fewer and fewer people going to the games. Worse, shootings were starting to occur every year. It was time to move on.

I hate to say it but you sound like all those racist in Charlotte who start crowing when there is a discussion about the Ciaa. Technically there was not that much crime associated with it, but the haters made it seem so. There are always incidents when other groups come to town, but  Charlotte people made it seem that crime was an CIAA exclusive occurrence. Aside from that, I do feel it is time for the tourney to move. When you stay in one place too long, people get use to you and start taking you for granted.

Slow your roll bro. I had a chance to be involved with the CIAA for a while as my company was a sponsor. Heck I even gave free game tickets and hospitalty suite passes to a few on this board.

For most of its years in Charlotte the CIAA did great and there was never any crime, however that started to change in recent years. As fewer true CIAA folks attended more of the outside element took over.......and they bought the trouble with them. Charlotte was starting to lose the battle in dealing with those folks.

Racist? Naw bro.....just google it for yourself.

I'm aware of all the  crime that occurred surrounding the tournament. The three major incidents that comes to mind was the shooting at the Piddy party, the shooting in the parking deck, and the shoot out involving the Tennessee rapper on the street.  Not to minimize the gravity of those incidents but people shooting at each other happens on a regular in uptown. Yes, like with the CIaa, most of those involved were African American. Basically, as bad as it sounds, we have an African American behavior problem, not a CIAA problem. Do you advocate banning all black folk from uptown Charlotte? It's is not fair to hang the problems of the community squarely on the tournament and proclaim that the tournament is the problem. That is what many in Charlotte have done by suggesting there is a spike in crime during tournament week.   They have disregarded the other incidents and choose to focus on those that happen during the tournament.

This is flat out racism, and I hope folk with good judgement can see this.

It does not matter where the tournament moves, like most college sports, ticket demand is on the decline. I read somewhere where that the national college football championship game tickets were greatly discounted to fill Levi stadium. Add to that, the Ciaa fan base is aging out and young folk are not replacing them. The same folk that made the tournament great back in the 70', 80's and 90's are the same folk going today.

Maaannn, that applies to so much more than just the CIAA tournament.

Who’s to blame for the CIAA tournament leaving Charlotte?

Like a lot of breakups, the one between Charlotte and the CIAA basketball tournament was kind of awkward. City and tourism officials, including Mayor Vi Lyles, didn’t even know things were over Monday afternoon when a reporter told them the tournament would be moving to Baltimore in 2021.

The loss is a big one for Charlotte — last year’s tourney had a total economic impact of $50.5 million, according to the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. CIAA officials say their headquarters will remain in Charlotte, but let’s face it, we’re sleeping in separate bedrooms now, and the fact that Charlotte found out the way it did raises a question: Who’s to blame for the CIAA slipping away?

At least a couple Charlotte City Council members have worried in recent years that Charlotte wasn’t showing the CIAA enough love, and one council member, James Mitchell, ripped the CRVA on Tuesday for putting together a “piss poor bid” to keep the tournament. But like a lot of breakups, there’s probably not one thing to blame.

James "Smuggie" Mitchell is an NCCU alum and Omega man by the way.

Spectrum arena wanted to knock down the days they would host to two days.  Friday and Saturday.  From six days the first 11 years to 3 days the last two years.  Their offer moving forward was two days!  SMH!

What's going on in Baltimore in February??

I think the CIAA will do fine. I think it will grow.

Pretty mixed reactions from the Claflin alumni so far is what I'm hearing. I'm still not 100% sold on Baltimore but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to go in two years. I'm actually even a little excited about it as this will give me a chance to see some of my DMV classmates that I haven't seen since graduation. What'll probably be make or break for me personally is how much more/less money I end up spending because I never spent a whole lot in Charlotte.

i guess seats will be at a premium again

NO!! Not at all.  The CIAA cannot get 10,000 fans to attend on championship night.  There will be plenty of seats available for fans to purchase.

Royal Farms Arena is an old fifty year old building.  This move will not put arses in those seats.  Your older base ticket buyers will not be following you into crime city. The younger student population will not be following their school teams. Overall this move doesn’t make any sense.  James Anderson, you aren’t no Black Moses in this move. You need to take your fake HBCU arse  back to your Catholic DC Childhood Days Base and stay our Black People History and Traditional Projects.

Attendance is going to drop significantly. You can't move away from your fan base and expect otherwise. The drop in attendance for the football championship game is an example of that.

I'm not traveling to watch a game in a 50 year old shed, I can stay home for that, or go over to NCCU.
