HBCU Athletic Leadership
« on: December 28, 2018, 06:12:04 AM »
For the first time in a while I believe we are at a place where our schools and conferences as whole are under solid leadership. We’ve seen clear messages and accountability coupled with various development projects to enhance branding across HBCU’s.

There is still way to much politicking going on between the university administration and athletics department. The university need to allow the the athletics administration do its job. Not going into detail, but they need to just get out of the way.

The University goals should always come ahead of any athletic desires.  :nono2:

We will have to make critical decisions in the coming years about our brand at the D-1 level.

Why can't athletics be a part of the university goals?

HBCUs, especially the ones on the D-1 level, have to do a better job of competing.

In the money sports they will have to pay their coaches more than the president/chancellor.  The leadership has to understand that there are businesses that will give to athletics over academics.

Personally our schools have  I think our schools have realized that our lane  is a business model worth striving for.

you constantly cite paying more than the Chancellor. When are you going to realize that 'we' usually don't have that kind of money to pay a head coach.

Are our games in basketball / football standing room only regardless of opponent?

You don't have enough people getting checks for your athletic department.  Imagine the money you could rake in if you had twice the number of people raising money, getting sponsors, and donations for athletics at your school.  You can have standing room only if you did a better job of getting butts in the seats.  You could expand your fan base.

You have a charismatic basketball coach.  NCCU has an exciting brand of basketball.  Capitalize on it.  There is no reason why you can't sellout or have at least 90% capacity every game.  Fans of NCCU basketball will show up regardless who you play at home.  Nothing will change if you keep doing things the way you always have.  You guys are sitting on a gold mine and don't know it.  Get the sponsors, get the fans, and make that money.

I don’t know much about Mr. Hicks but it looks like he’s not scared to make changes in staff members. Hopefully it all works out on the Hill.

What i find funny with this conversation, you bring this up constantly. However at Fayetteville State , this isn't happening. So how can you tell others how to do something, your own school isn't doing?
