In the hotbed that is south Florida football, it is declining somewhat. Last year, perennial area powerhouse Vero Beach High had all three levels of football (freshman,JV and varsity) while some other schools barely fielded a JV team. In my district, there is a $100 yearly extracurricular fee that each students must pay. At some schools in the state it is as high as $500 FOR EACH SPORT. So there are some financial considerations there as well. The racial makeup of some teams mirrors the demographics of the school as well.
