::)  Woman Thought Her Afro-Latino Heritage Made Her Stand Out, Only to Be Disappointed By DNA Results

A woman looking to uncover her ancestral roots says her DNA test results were enough to make her rethink her entire racial and genetic makeup.

In a piece for the Huffington Post, guest writer Chana Garcia said her identity as an Afro-Mexican was called into question after genetic testing revealed she nor her cousins had Mexican roots. The startling revelation came after her Uncle Tony, 68, submitted a sample of his DNA as part of her niece’s school project last summer, sending the family into a tizzy.

“‘No Spanish! Not one drop!’ texted my cousin Tony, an attorney in Baltimore and Uncle Tony’s son, referring to the fact that we apparently had no Mexican roots,” Garcia wrote. “As if we’d all missed that part.”

“How could I be a Garcia with no Hispanic heritage?” she added. “It didn’t add up, and that felt deeply unsettling.”

Strike, its the typical silly negro-stuff of "I got some___in my family"  NEWSFLASH: We ALL got some___in our family and yo behind is still Black.

Its similar to that mess in the DR and other countries where the folks descended from Africa yet they want to be called anything other than african-descent OR Black.  ::)

That she even felt a need to blog/write about this bullchit...GIRL, SIT DOWN SOMEWHERE!

Cap^^^^^the comment was directed at JT, and was intended to be received humorously.

Had I been specifically addressing you, I would have worded it differently, totally aware of your difficulty discerning sarcasm/humor.

Ok, senor?

I'm sorry Strike. Your post caught me completely off guard. The only humor I'm familiar with coming from an Onnidan Mob  member is that which involves calling people names and laughing loudly about it. Sorry, i will pay more attention the next time and hopefully it won't go sailing over my head again.

I hope that my dark self is pure negro.
There is no pure individual.  I have been on ancestry.com and what they stated that most people are a mixture of 4 races: African, European, Native Americain and East Asian.   Yes, back in the day, people changed their name or race.  In my family, one of my great grandfathers shot a man and changed his last name to Farmer.  In fact, there is no record of him before 1920, and he was born in 1880.
Exactly How "Black" Are Black Americans?

* According to Ancestry.com, the average African American is 65 percent sub-Saharan African, 29 percent European and 2 percent Native American.

* According to 23andme.com, the average African American is 75 percent sub-Saharan African, 22 percent European and only 0.6 percent Native American.

* According to Family Tree DNA.com, the average African American is 72.95 percent sub-Saharan African, 22.83 percent European and 1.7 percent Native American.

* According to National Geographic's Genographic Project, the average African American is 80 percent sub-Saharan African, 19 percent European and 1 percent Native American.

* According to AfricanDNA, in which I am a partner with Family Tree DNA, the average African American is 79 percent sub-Saharan African, 19 percent European and 2 percent Native American.

Latinos are some of the most mentally mess up people due to White Supremacy and racism. It's even worse when someone thought they were Latino and special.
