Avoiding the play-in game????
« on: March 11, 2017, 03:43:09 PM »
North Carolina Central defeated Norfolk State, 67-59, to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title and Texas Southern will represent the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) because Alcorn State is not eligible for post-season play. Will the black schools avoid the Division One NCAA play-in game in Dayton, Ohio this year?

There are several schools who won their conference tournament and are going to the Big Dance with double digit losses.   Northern Kentucky is one of them.  NCCU beat NKU back in November on their home court.

There conference is much better than the MEAC.   Hopefully NCCU can get a 13 seed.  Optimistically, it looks more like a 14 or not 15 seed.  I doubt you'll see a 16 seed this year.

That loss to A&T nixed any chances of avoiding the play-in game.

Stop saying Play in. Remember they wanted to dignify it by calling it the First Four.

The winners get those share payments for 6 years.  You can call it what you want.  Personally, I hope we get a First Four bid.

I bet we're the only conferences that are still looking at it in a negative manner even though we're getting paid.

We don't send the cheerleaders or fans to Dayton. The local fans "adopt" teams , usually HBCU's for the game.

y'all are crazy, give me the first four game. It gives us a better chance to win a game in the tournament which means more money! first four isn't a bad thing.

The problem with the play in game is you don't know who you will play until Sunday evening.  If you play on Tuesday night you a very short time to prepare for your opponent.  You might have a walk thru on Sunday night.  You will travel on Monday.  Then play on Tuesday.  If you win you will play a team that has rested since Saturday afternoon.  It's brutal.

It's not impossible.  VCU made the Final Four in 2011.  NCCU nor TX So have the caliber of team or head coach that VCU had in 2011.

Yep, plus you'll be the only game on during that time.  The first four is a good deal!
