The Valley signed so far a QB, FS/SS, and OL.

Armstrong is big kid at quarterback. He throws the ball on the run a lot and certainly not afraid to lower his shoulder. Made a major leap in arm strength this season. Last year we thought that was a weakness but his timing and ability to get the ball out deep seems to have dramatically improved for the better. The senior QB has a massive frame but still moves well enough to move around and buy more time for a receiver to get open.

The Florida pipeline has been good to VUU again this year. We signed the 2016 Palm Beach player of the year and a 2 good linebackers from Deerfield Beach.

Albany State Recruiting Class...

ALBANY — Albany State head football coach signed 21 players on National Signing Day.

And over the next few weeks, the third-year ASU coach hopes to add a few more.

“We’re going to be looking at signing between 20-25 players,” Land said. “That’s our goal.”

The Rams finished the 2016 season with a 5-4 record and narrowly missed returning to the SIAC Championship Game for the fourth straight season when Fort Valley State stunned the Rams 21-17 in the Fountain City Classic in Columbus.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak.

Land said the Rams filled their biggest areas of need, especially along the interior lines.

The Rams will lose all-conference performer Javoris Wilborn on the offensive line, while they will take a bigger hit on the defensive front as former Mitchell County standout Grover Stewart and Monte Stewart are gone.

“We made sure we went after the big guys,” Land said. “That was our biggest area of need.”

Albany State landed several South Georgia players. They signed versatile Thomasville running back Tori Sapp, who totaled 372 yards receiving with three touchdown catches as a receiver. He also added 169 yards rushing and returned kickoffs.

The Rams also signed Lee County standout punter Garrett Glover, an all-region selection for the Trojans.

Land said he couldn’t be happier with his signees, whom he hopes could help make an immediate impact.

“I feel really good about these guys,” Land said. “The kids that we went after, we want them to compete and have a chance to make the roster. We didn’t really want guys who we would have to develop, we were looking for guys who can come in and help us out now. We want guys who can come in and help make everybody else better.”

Land said Albany State will begin spring football practice on Feb. 20.

It is What It is.....It will BE what it WILL be....

Crawford is a great lineman! I've seen him play a few times over his career.
I've seen Phillips play. Strong arm and accurate. Also good with his feet. Dual threat. He'll compete for playing time. What we needed was to beef up the interior DL. Our run defense sucks.
